Another high efficiency Bryant system going in 💪

Three new 20 SEER Bryant units, each one sitting level on its own fresh concrete pad. 20 SEER is about as efficient as it gets for central air, so these folks are going to feel the difference on their power bill next summer.

If your outside unit is still running on the original from when the house was built, it might be costing you more than you think.

What SEER is your current system? Most folks have no idea, and that's alright. It's on the sticker on the side of the outdoor unit if you want to go look 😉

That's a wrap on another week. Here's a little of what the crew got into:

Joey and the install crew finished a full change out in Mobile. New 3.5 ton Goodman gas system, new flue pipe and roof jack, a concrete pad for the outdoor unit, and a Honeywell thermostat to run it all.

Tracen went out to Irvington to look at a commercial lobby that's getting a pair of new mini-splits, and later in the week did a tune-up in Saraland. That clean evaporator coil in the pictures is from that one.

Chance handled maintenance on three systems at one job in Mobile, cleaning drain lines and flame sensors and checking temps on all of them before the cold gets here.

Plus a whole lot of fall maintenance in between. Thanks to everybody who had us out this week, and thanks to the guys for putting in the work.

If you haven't flipped your heat on yet this season, give it a quick test run before the first real cold front. Much better to find out now than at 6am when it's 38 outside.

Out with the old Bryant, in with a new Goodman.

Joey and the crew wrapped up a full gas system change out in Mobile this week. New 3.5 ton Goodman outdoor unit, new gas furnace, Honeywell digital thermostat, new vent pipe and roof jack, plus a concrete pad so the condenser sits level for the long haul. They pulled a vacuum and charged it to Goodman's specs before calling it done. It's backed by a 10 year parts and 2 year labor warranty.

If you're stuck deciding whether to fix your old system one more time, here's a rough rule a lot of us go by. If it's 12 to 15 years old and the repair bill is creeping toward half the price of a new one, it's at least worth getting a replacement quote before you sink more money into it.

What's the oldest system you've ever kept running? We've seen some real survivors out there.

Rise and roll, Estes crew heading out for the day 🚐

This is what every morning looks like around here. Vans stocked, ladders strapped down, and everybody heading out across Mobile and Baldwin County to keep folks comfortable.

If you see one of these white Estes vans in your neighborhood today, give a wave. And if your system's been acting up, there's probably one close by already.

Who else is up and at it this early?

This little silver can is behind a lot of the "my outside unit won't come on" calls we get.

It's the run capacitor. It gives the compressor and fan motor the kick they need to get going. Tracen snapped this one during a maintenance visit in Mobile last week, and checking it is part of every tune-up we do.

When one starts getting weak you might notice:
- the outside unit hums but the fan won't spin
- it clicks on and then right back off
- the top of the capacitor looks swollen or domed

If you've got a heat pump, that same outdoor unit is what heats your house this winter, so it's worth catching before the first real cold night.

One thing, please don't go poking around in there yourself. These can hold a charge even with the power off. Turn the system off at the thermostat and give us a call.

Anybody ever had their outside unit just sit there humming at them?

One year ago Chance joined the Estes crew, and we're sure glad he did.

If you've had a maintenance visit or a service call from us this past year, there's a good chance it was him in your attic or crawling around your outdoor unit. He takes his time, does it right, and leaves the place cleaner than he found it. Just last week he knocked out four systems at one property in a single visit.

Happy 1 year, Chance. Thanks for everything you bring to the team.

If Chance has been out to your house, drop him a congrats below!

Chance had four systems to get through at one property here in Mobile on this visit. Every one got the condenser cleaned, drain lines cleared, capacitors and filters checked, and the temperature split measured inside. Two of the older ones had some buildup in the air handlers, but all four were running well when he packed up.

One thing you can spot in this picture that's worth a mention this time of year: leaves. Fall is when they start piling up around outdoor units, and if you have a heat pump, that unit is about to be doing your heating too. Rake them back a couple feet, keep the top clear, and let it breathe.

Who else has a tree that drops every leaf it owns right on top of the AC?

Nights are finally dipping into the 50s around Mobile this week, so a lot of y'all are about to turn the heat on for the first time since spring.

Do yourself a favor and test it before you need it. Pick one of these warm afternoons, switch the thermostat to heat, bump it a few degrees above room temp, and give it 10 to 15 minutes. You're looking for warm air at the vents and the outdoor unit running. A little dusty smell the first time is normal and should clear out quick. If the smell sticks around, it trips the breaker, or it just blows cool air, that's when you call somebody.

Much better to find out now than on the first 40 degree morning when everybody's calling at once.

Pictured is a Carrier heat pump Tracen took care of last week on a fall maintenance visit here in Mobile. He tested heat mode, cleared the drain line, washed the outdoor coil, checked startup amps, and leak checked the indoor coil. Running just like it should.

Anybody already broken down and turned the heat on this year?

Happy Friday, Gulf Coast.

After the week we've all had, this weekend feels extra earned. Whatever you've got planned, whether it's cleanup, rest, or just getting back to normal, we hope it's a good one.

Quick check before you head out: system running fine, no weird noises, no lingering storm damage? If it's all good, enjoy your weekend. If something's still off, let's get it sorted before next week.

Good morning, Gulf Coast.

After heavy rain and flooding risk like we just saw, indoor air quality is worth thinking about, even if your home stayed dry. Excess moisture anywhere near your system or ductwork can lead to mold growth that you won't necessarily see or smell right away.

If your home has felt musty, extra humid, or just "off" since the storm, it might be worth having your system and air quality checked. Catching it early is a lot easier than dealing with a mold problem down the line.
