Customer purchased this home and the kitchen had been freshly remodeled except they forgot to change the lighting around to match the new layout. Removed the old flourescent cans and installed 6 new can lights with LED trims to match the new counter tops. Also added 3 pendant lights hanging at the same level from a sloped ceiling over the island. Sheetrocker came in and patched the old holes. Way better than before.

Converted nine kitchen flourescent can lights to LED, changed old under cabinet lights from flourescent to LED, and replaced the old pendant lights with new ones. Sadly I don't have a before picture because by the time I got there everything had been demoed.

Customer stated the breaker for their A/C and their pool pump keeps tripping.

Questions were raised as to why the A/C and pool pump would be on the same breaker but upon further inspection found the person who did the pool converted the A/C disconnect to a pool panel and fed both seperately from the pool panel. The breaker back at the main panel that fed the pool panel was tripping. The pool guy changed the original 40 amp breaker for that circuit to a 60 amp in order to have enough power for the A/C and pump.

Once I started digging a little deeper I noticed the wire from the main panel to the pool panel was #6 aluminum which is not rated for the 60 amp breaker feeding the pool panel that fed the pump and A/C. Not only that but the connections, pertaining to this circuit, both at the main panel and the pool panel were waaaay too loose. On an aluminum circuit thats a big no no. Surefire way to start burning things up.

It burnt up the breaker at the main panel. If you look at the lugs on the breaker one is discolored and dull. As well as the inside of the lug on that one side is all mangled and burned and the other is shiny.

I had to temporarily put it back on a 40 amp breaker and told the customer they could use the A/C or the pool pump but not both at the same time or he'll trip the breaker.

That is until I can get back out there and dig an 18" deep trench all the way down the side of his house to feed the pool panel separately and put the A/C circuit back the way it was.

Moral of the story: Always have licensed people work on your projects and don't have the pool guy, hvac, or whatever guy tell you they can do the electrical. THEY'RE NOT ELECTRICIANS.

If we had a dollar for everytime we found a Zinsco 100/125 amp panel with burnt buss bars and breakers, we'd have many dollars. The original aluminum buss bars are garbage and they burn up over time taking out breakers with it. Replaced them with copper buss bars along with a new main breaker to get this customer back up and running. Much cheaper and faster than replacing the whole panel. Sometimes rebuilding something is the better way to go 👍
