We had the opportunity to make a "Rock Garden" in a small yard in Durham. Shout out to "The Rock Shop" in Durham and "Big Bloomers" in Sanford for making the "colorscapin" go easy...and the crew and client for making the whole project so fun!

Clematis like their roots cool. Folks who plant them on their mailboxes try to put the root in the ground on the NE side of the mailbox post so the roots will be shaded from the hot afternoon sun.
An elderly gardening friend had her clematis trellis on a hot western wall...so she stuck a lerge bouquet of artificial silk flowers at the base to shade the roots.

Peony blooming time. Plant them high and don't mulch around 'pips'. Over-mulching discourages blooms.
