🧱 Brick Wall Construction: Correct vs. Incorrect Workmanship

A well-constructed brick wall depends on proper brick bonding, uniform mortar joints, and quality workmanship. One of the most common mistakes is aligning vertical joints directly above one another, which weakens the wall and increases the risk of cracks. Instead, bricks should be laid in a staggered (offset) bond pattern to distribute loads evenly and improve structural stability.

Key Points:

✅ Use staggered (offset) vertical joints for maximum strength.

✅ Maintain uniform mortar joint thickness of 10 ± 2 mm.

✅ Use Class A quality bricks and soak them in water for at least 30 minutes before laying.

✅ Use 1:6 cement-sand mortar for general brick masonry.

✅ Keep a minimum ¼ brick overlap between courses.

✅ Check alignment, level, and plumb regularly during construction.

✅ Cure the brickwork properly for at least 7 days for better strength and durability.
