How do you build a hotel and parking garage in the middle of a busy downtown without disrupting everything around it?

It starts with planning, teamwork, a safety-first mindset, and a lot of Baker grit.

Our team is helping bring the Tempo by Hilton Hotel & Garage to life in Virginia Beach, VA. The 116,000-square-foot, podium-style project includes five elevated slabs and more than 6,100 cubic yards of concrete, all on an aggressive schedule.

With the site surrounded by active streets, businesses, pedestrians, and vehicle traffic, every move matters. We have worked closely with Core 22, the City of Virginia Beach, suppliers, and neighboring businesses to coordinate road closures, sequence deliveries, and safely execute concrete placements while keeping the project moving forward.

One of the project's most unique features is the tower crane, erected within the building footprint itself and now a familiar part of the downtown skyline.

Projects like this are the reason why our co-workers choose to work with Baker. The work can be challenging, but they are building their legacy in communities across the U.S.

At Baker, we believe success is about more than what happens on the jobsite. Through our 10,000 Keys initiative, we celebrate the personal milestones our co-workers work hard to achieve. When a co-worker reaches a lifelong dream, they sign a golden key and add it to the 10,000 Keys wall in their local office, a reminder of what's possible at Baker.

For Formwork Engineer Josiah Driebelbis, that milestone was homeownership.

When he joined Baker, Josiah assumed it would take months before he felt financially secure enough to buy a home and put down roots in North, Ohio. Instead, it took only a few weeks.

The support of his managers, encouragement from co-workers, and seeing so many people build long, successful careers at Baker gave him confidence that he was in the right place and ready to take the next step for his family.

"I'm proud to be part of a company where people genuinely invest in each other's success, both on and off the job."

Congratulations, Josiah, on reaching your goal and earning your place on the 10,000 Keys wall.

Thirty years ago, the Concrete Industry Management (CIM) program was created to help develop the next generation of leaders in concrete construction.

Today, that mission matters more than ever. As the CIM program celebrates its 30th anniversary, Baker is proud to support an initiative that continues to strengthen the future of our industry through leadership development, technical education, and real-world experience.

Our own CEO, Karl Watson, has long been an advocate for investing in the next generation of construction leaders and supporting programs that help students build meaningful careers in the industry.

Programs like CIM play a critical role in preparing future leaders to tackle complex challenges, drive innovation, and move the concrete industry forward.

Congratulations to everyone who has helped shape CIM over the last three decades. We’re honored to support its continued impact.

What happens when you put future field leaders in a room with the people who once stood in their boots?

You get honest conversations, hard-earned advice, and a reminder that growth doesn’t happen alone.

Baker recently hosted its first-ever Five Tours Networking Lunch, bringing together several current participants, graduates, mentors, and supporters of our Five Tours program. Five Tours is a structured, hands-on program that provides interns and new full-time co-workers with experience across multiple areas of concrete construction before helping them chart their career path.

The event was designed to recognize co-workers who completed the program, connect participants across experience levels, and gather feedback on what’s working and where we can continue to improve.

Several graduates were recognized for successfully completing the program and stepping into key field and operations roles across the company.

At Baker, we don’t just provide training. We invest in the future of our co-workers with mentorship and support to realize their dreams.

We build more than better structures at Baker. We also build better lives for the people and families who make this company what it is.

Our co-worker, Samuel Herrera, recently shared pictures of his daughter proudly wearing a Baker hat to her school’s field day. She told her mom she chose to wear that hat because “that’s where my dad works.”

For our people, it’s not just about helping shape skylines or deliver clean water or the future of energy infrastructure. It’s the satisfaction that comes from working with a team that puts people first, honors its word, and respects grit.

That’s the Baker Way.

Looking for more than just a job? We’re hiring across the U.S.

Congratulations to Carla Yaneth Alvares, daughter of co-worker Jose Miguel Alvarez, for winning our 2026 Safety Week Kids Activity Contest!

Carla’s artwork was unanimously selected for its creativity and strong safety message. Her winning design will be featured on this year’s official Safety Week drawstring bag.

Thank you to all the co-workers and families who participated and helped bring safety to life through art. Safety starts at home and continues everywhere we work.

What started as a single email turned into a hands-on learning experience for future engineers.

When George Mason University reached out for support on their concrete canoe team, Baker co-workers stepped in to help guide students through mix design, fabrication, and real-world problem solving.

The journey was not without challenges. Students navigated batching concrete in sub-freezing temperatures, material delays that required last-minute adjustments, formwork issues, and repairs to cracked sections ahead of competition. Despite those hurdles, the team made it to the ASCE Concrete Canoe Competition at the Mid-Atlantic Student Symposium, hosted by the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown.

We’re proud to support a team with such incredible grit! This is how we build the future of our industry.

At Baker, safety is a priority we discuss daily. But Construction Safety Week gave us a chance to unite as One Baker to focus on how safety is built into the small moments, from recognizing hazards to adjusting the plan when conditions change.

We are especially grateful to our partners and suppliers who helped support our teams during the week.

Here’s a look back at events, toolbox talks, and trainings from our jobsites across the country.
