When you have the Monday-est Monday in awhile 😩.

These cabinets had 3 layers of paint on them. After sanding for 4 hours as part of my prep today, I accidentally nicked the edge of one of the frames and a sheet of paint fell off 🥹.

Silly me picked at it and all of a sudden, the entire kitchen turned into Pandora’s box as I needed to get to the bottom this mystery! 2 hours of hand picking and scraping later, this kitchen has been ‘peeled’ back to its original wood. This means that 3 coats ago, the original painter did not use primer and just through some paint on them. 🤦‍♀️

While I wasn’t thrilled about the extra hours, I’m happy for my clients that I won’t be the 4th coat of paint on these cabinets and they get to start from ‘new’.

I’ll be enjoying my Open concept kitchen until I am able to refinish these doors, while my clients all know within the week, theirs will be back.

I'm a tad behind in posting kitchen transformations (tad is an understatement), so let's kick off our Monday with the most recent one!

This light 🌟and airy 💨 space was a little heavy with the dark cabinets and our homeowner also wanted it extended to the ceiling to avoid the dust collection that inevitably happens. They added a new backsplash themselves, replaced the countertop and chose colors that matched their space (new wall color is on the agenda).

We went with BM Stone White which is a white with the palest gray tint to it, and Northern Skies for the island just for fun and color. Can't wait to see the new wall color and everything tied in together 😍

You are in charge of your own damn schedule. In 2027, pay attention to when Mothers Day is so you don’t schedule a behemoth kitchen that has 1447 knicks/dings that also need to be repaired. 😩

The main hold up for my clients, and now my own project, is the backsplash. I’m choosing a 'bolder', but more personal design because I live here and want to love this kitchen while letting my own design personality be reflected; future buyers can always change it later.

This tile has a very wide, and dated grout line, so I needed to call in Tara from to weigh in. She suggested a lighter grout to make the gold edging pop which is a choice I hadn’t considered but agreed was perfect. 🫶

Even better, the tile contractor wants to set the tiles closer together (more $$$, but worth it).

Is it 6:00 on a Sunday night and I should be getting dinner ready? Yes. But I am antsy to take advantage of every free minute to get my own kitchen done.

So am I moving items 3” out to give space for sanding? No
Am I using a drop cloth? Also No
Am I going to tape anything off? Big No

In between being my own worst client while working on our kitchen, our regular transformation work continues 💪🏻

These down sizers bought a home with great bones and layout but needed some work to get it just right for them.

The kitchen had obviously been added to throughout the years with cabinets of different heights, 3 different profiles, a horrifying paint job with debris stuck in the massive brush strokes, and some odd layout choices.

My client had a vision, a color with depth in mind, and was all in for replacing doors/drawers to get a more unified and updated look. This was such a tremendous transformation but it’s finally the personalized kitchen they envisioned ❤️
