I'd Prop It

I'd Prop It 🌱 I'm just over here in a perpetual state of propagation. Let's grow stuff together.🌱

🌱✂️Let's prop 5 different ways!✂️🌱

I know this is a long video but I've had several people ask how I propagate. I want us to learn from each other, so I put this little video together.

Today we're going to propagate in soil, perlite, perlite and sphagnum moss, coco coir and water. Never let anyone tell you that one way is better than the other. You always do what you feel works best for you!

FYI: I may receive a small commission if you buy through these links at no extra cost to you.

Dechlorinator: You do not need to purchase a dechlorinator. You can simply put water in a container and set it out for 24-48 hours to let the chlorine dissipate. But I never have that long so this is a quick, immediate fix! https://amzn.to/4uPTheK

Perlite: It's cheapest at my local HEB!

Ever candled an amaryllis embryo? 😳 I'm super curious about anything and everything plants, so when I read that you should feel for an embryo, of course I decided to candle it. Holy moly. That's a whole baby in there, y'all! I wasn't expecting that! Super cool.

Planted 24 random hybrid amaryllis seeds today. In 3 to 5 years we will find out what colors they are! 😆 🌸

Propin' is still slow, but it will speed up as the days get warmer. For now, let's repot the cutest little Lemon Button Fern I got for Valentine's Day! 🪴

The soil was super spongey and saturated. This "squeeze" was from the store's watering - 7 days later, and I also removed the mesh starter plug.

The final photo was 24 hours later.

Soil:
I have a random soil bin that I dump repot soil in. I add pine bark nuggets, coco coir, perlite, and worm castings to help nourish and chunk it up so that the roots can still breathe.

This works for me. You use what works for you, and don't let anyone tell you what works is wrong. :)

🌱🌱Any guesses??? 🌱🌱
These babies are in the process of acclimating to lower humidity! Over the next few days, they will be completely out of the greenhouse, and then on to separating and potting. Hint: They'll prop. Eeeek!!

While y'all are wrapping pipes for the Icepocalypse, I have bigger priorities. 😂 Saved these rogue ground rooted scraggler arrowheads and potato vines from outside. They are now part of my indoor jungle pot collection. I think I'm going to call it Savage Garden.

In case you didn't know, a jungle pot is when you mix different tropical plants together and put them in one pot and hope they make it. Savage.

Two very different colors, yet all four cuttings are from the same vine. The darker two cuttings were the oldest leaves from this mother plant, and the lighter two cuttings shot out after I cut right against the darker cuttings a month or so ago. Nature is cool.

Well hello there, little propped petal pretties. ♥️♥️ I love tiny blooms.

Coleus plants propagate really easily directly into soil or in a sphagnum moss/perlite prop cup and then transplanted into soil. This one was planted directly into a cheap plastic (not solo brand) cup with holes in the bottom. The red solo cup chalice is the "pot holder".

Alligator kalenchoe was plucked out of a pot from a friend and has been growing since the summer.

And yes, I realize it is right smack dab in the middle of winter. But... It feels like 76° and 50% humidity. This is Texas. She does what she does. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

What is 80° and a billion percent humidity?
