If you are preparing for a new fence, you need to first be sure to clear the area where the fence will go. There are two main ways to clear out your land.

There’s the mechanical method, which is what you might think of: chainsaws, bulldozers, brush mowers, trimmers, oh my! One thing to keep in mind with these methods is that they are not permanent; things will eventually grow back. But this method also allows the process to take place efficiently.

The other method involves herbicides. Use them to kill brush and keep your fence lines clear. You can find either chemical and organic options, depending on your needs and preferences.

Unfortunately, fence line clearing is not a once and done process. Land clearing specialists (like us!) can help you come up with a management plan to keep your fence rows clear year-round! 🙌🏻

If you’re gearing up for the fall farming season, we’ve got some simple tips for you to prep your land!

🌱 Start with a plan - look over your property to inventory and evaluate what you have and what you should get rid of before clearing out.

🌱 Make sure your plan is practical - check with other farmers in your area to ensure the crops you are planning for will do well in this area.

🌱 Evaluate the worth of your trees - if you have a lot of trees on your property that will need to be removed for your farming, identify the type. You may be able to sell them to offset the price of removal (or end up with a profit 👏🏻)

🌱 Equip yourself - clearing land is hard work. If you plan to do it yourself, you will need equipment to help you. If you don’t have the equipment, you might consider hiring a land clearing company to help you (hey, that’s us!)

🌱 Do the job in one go, if possible. Clearing the land you need all at once will save you money in the long run. (this is why it’s so important to start with a plan or work with someone who will handle it efficiently.)

If you’re making plans to do some fall farming, don’t forget that ACT Land & Brush is here to help with all of your land-clearing needs!
