After more than 16 years of service with the Alabama SBDC Network at Alabama State University, it is with a heart full of gratitude that I officially announce my retirement.
Serving as Director of the Alabama SBDC at ASU has been one of the greatest honors of my professional career. Together with an outstanding team and incredible partners, we provided thousands of aspiring and existing entrepreneurs with the resources, guidance, and technical assistance needed to start, grow, and strengthen their businesses. Along the way, we helped hundreds of entrepreneurs launch new ventures, facilitated access to millions of dollars in capital and government contract opportunities, delivered hundreds of business training programs, and contributed to strengthening Alabama's small business ecosystem.
None of this would have been possible without the trust and support of our clients, staff, colleagues, community partners, stakeholders, the U.S. Small Business Administration, Alabama State University, and the many organizations that believed in our shared mission.
To every entrepreneur who allowed me to be part of your journey—thank you. Your resilience, determination, and success have inspired me every day and have made this work incredibly rewarding.
As I reflect on this journey, I would be remiss if I did not express my heartfelt appreciation to three extraordinary leaders who helped shape my career and my approach to servant leadership. I am forever grateful to my former director, the late Lorenza Patrick, whose vision, leadership, and belief in me laid the foundation for my success. I also extend my sincere gratitude to my mentors, Charlie Hardy and Retired U.S. Air Force Colonel B. K. Haynes, whose wisdom, encouragement, and unwavering guidance challenged me to lead with integrity, purpose, excellence, and a heart for service. Your influence has left an enduring mark on my life, and I will always carry your lessons with me.
I would also like to extend my sincere appreciation to Alabama SBDC Network Directors, Bill Cummins and Michael Brooks for your trust, confidence, and belief in my ability to lead the Alabama SBDC at Alabama State University. Thank you for entrusting me with this mission and for your steadfast support, encouragement, and leadership throughout my tenure. Your confidence in me provided opportunities to grow, serve, and make a meaningful difference in the lives of Alabama's entrepreneurs.
I would also like to express my deepest appreciation to my incredible SBDC team at ASU especially—Valencia Hall and Cordero Young. Thank you for your unwavering dedication, professionalism, and commitment to serving Alabama's small business community. Together, we formed a dynamic team that faced every challenge with determination, celebrated every success together, and remained committed to excellence. Your loyalty, teamwork, and friendship have meant more to me than words can express, and I will always be grateful for the opportunity to have served alongside each of you.
To my colleagues across the Alabama SBDC Network and the SBA Alabama District Office, thank you for your partnership, collaboration, and steadfast support throughout my career. It has been a privilege to work alongside such a dedicated network of professionals who share a passion for empowering entrepreneurs, strengthening small businesses, and advancing economic development across Alabama. Together, we demonstrated what can be accomplished when organizations unite with a common purpose to serve.
As I close this chapter, I do so with immense gratitude, cherished memories, lifelong friendships, and confidence that the work of supporting small businesses will continue to make a lasting impact for generations to come.
Although I am retiring from Alabama State University, I am not retiring from purpose. I look forward to continuing to serve through new opportunities in leadership, workforce development, economic development, artificial intelligence, consulting, and community impact.
Thank you for allowing me to serve. It has truly been the honor of a lifetime.
