Slope washing out every storm? Here's the boulder retaining wall that fixed it — Bishops Bay, WI.
This foundation bed was losing material every heavy rain. Mulch on the lawn, bed edge disappearing, and a downspout dumping roof water straight onto the slope.

Here's what most people miss: a retaining wall alone wouldn't have fixed this. The water had to go somewhere.

So we regraded the failing slope, laid fabric, hand-set a two-course natural boulder wall, and tied the downspout through the wall to daylight past the bed. Fresh mulch on top, seed and straw on all the disturbed turf.

Boulder walls look simple in a photo. Every stone gets picked, turned, and set so the face lines up and the weight sits where it should. There's no cheating it with a level and a rubber mallet.

From bare slope to backyard retreat.

This one was a full transformation. Our crew rebuilt a 45-foot outcropping limestone retaining wall, carved out new garden beds, and laid a flagstone stepping stone path through a fresh river rock bed — all while working around a mature maple we weren't about to lose.

The existing firepit patio got new life too: pressure washed, joints re-sanded and sealed, and new restraint edging installed to lock it down for the long haul. No tear-out needed.

The wall is the part you don't see. Filter fabric and clean drainage stone behind every course, so it sheds water instead of holding it. That's what keeps a wall standing straight in year fifteen instead of bowing out in year three.

Beds planted, paths set, yard graded, seeded, and blanketed. She's got a space she'll actually use now.

Before and after on a brand-new boulder-edged garden bed we just added in Verona. This spot had no bed at all — just lawn — so we carved out a fresh planting area and framed it with natural boulders for clean, permanent edges. No plastic edging to pop loose, no re-trenching every spring. Just a sharp, low-maintenance border that makes the whole yard look intentional.

A small thank-you to a place that meant the world to me growing up.

Today my company, YD Exterior Visions, donated and installed two 4'×8' raised garden beds at the Lussier Community Education Center.

Lussier was my after-school home growing up. I went there every single day, and some of my best childhood memories were made on that basketball court — countless hours with friends, pickup games, and the kind of fun that sticks with you for life.

Now Lussier will use these beds as a community garden to grow fresh produce for the kids and families they serve. It feels really good to give something back to the place that gave me so much.

If you've got kids in the area and you don't know about Lussier — go check them out. They do incredible work for our community.
