Some glow-ups are subtle. This one definitely got the memo to go bold.

Garage door makeovers might be some of our favorite projects—not just because we love a good before-and-after, but because few things transform this much of a home’s exterior in one shot. And when homeowners see the finished result? That reaction is pretty hard to beat.

This home traded its lighter, more traditional doors for two Raynor AP138s, sized 16’ × 7’ and 10’ × 7’, finished in Black with the Recessed Ranch Smooth pattern and a clean row of Clear Ranch windows across the top. Same house. Same openings. Whole different attitude.

The black gives the exterior a strong new anchor, while the recessed panels keep some of that classic character intact. And those streamlined windows? They bring in the light while giving the doors a much cleaner, more contemporary finish.

It’s a great example of why we love garage door glow-ups so much. You don’t always need to repaint the house, redo the landscaping or reinvent the entire exterior. Sometimes, changing the biggest moving feature on the front of your home is enough to make everything else look new again. From “perfectly fine” to “well, HELLO.”

Dark, dimensional, and decidedly not black. That’s the beauty of Iron Ore.

We recently installed these two Raynor AP138 doors—16’ × 8’ and 8’ × 8’—for one of our builder projects in a new Delta subdivision, both featuring the classic Raised Ranch panel in Iron Ore.

And can we talk about that color?

Iron Ore lives in that sweet spot between gray and black. It’s dark and dramatic without going full black, which means you still get depth, dimension, and subtle variation as the light changes. Against the light stucco and gray stone on this home, it gives the exterior just enough contrast to command attention without overpowering everything around it.

The Raised Ranch panels help, too. With a color this deep, the recessed edges catch the light and shadow differently throughout the day, giving the doors a little more architectural definition than you might expect from a dark finish.

Black gets plenty of attention, but Iron Ore deserves a seat at the table. It’s sophisticated, versatile, and—yes, I’ll admit it—a personal favorite around here.

This 18’ × 8’ Raynor AP138 in Cocoa Hickory woodgrain brings warmth and character to this new build, paired with the Recessed Ranch Grooved pattern for a classic ranch-inspired look.

Against the crisp white siding and stonework, that rich Cocoa Hickory gives the exterior a warm focal point—and proves you don’t need actual wood to bring plenty of woodsy character to the curb.

TGIF—ending the week on an Iron Ore high in Ridgway.

Spanning 18' × 7', this Raynor AP200 makes good use of all that width, pairing an Iron Ore finish with sleek Flush panels for one clean, modern facade. Simple on paper, but against that sage-green siding? That dark contrast is doing a lot of heavy lifting.

Then there’s the full section of Clear Ranch windows across the top—breaking up the broad face of the door with just enough glass to add visual interest. And from inside the garage, those windows have another job: bringing in a nice band of natural light while keeping the glass up and out of the main sightline.

The result is modern without trying too hard, and that Iron Ore + sage green pairing deserves a little Friday appreciation of its own.

Some homes call for drama. Others just need a garage door that looks like it was always meant to be there. This Cedaredge install falls squarely into the second camp.

Two 10’ × 8’ Raynor AP200 doors in Brown bring a warm, grounded look to the exterior, while the classic Raised Ranch pattern adds just enough detail without making the doors compete with the rest of the home. And up top, two Clear Ranch windows on each door do what good windows should: bring in some natural light, break up the expanse of the door, and give the whole design a nicely finished look.

Brown can sometimes fly under the radar in a world of black, white and woodgrain—but on the right house, it just belongs. Warm, traditional, and easy on the eyes.
No need to shout for attention when the whole look comes together this naturally.

Remember this hit door? Well, here’s the sequel—with a much happier ending.

About three weeks ago, we shared this commercial door after it took a pretty serious hit. The damage was substantial, but before a replacement could arrive, there was a more immediate problem to solve: the customer still needed to secure the building. Our crew knocked the damaged door back into shape enough to get it closed, giving the customer a secure opening and some peace of mind while the new door was on order.

Fast-forward three weeks, and the replacement is officially in. The new door is a 12’ × 13’ Raynor Commercial AP138C, finished in White with a Plank (Ribbed) pattern. Because it sits right alongside an older existing door, we selected the new door to match its neighbor as closely as possible—because nobody wants one side of the building looking like it just got a makeover while the other is wondering why it wasn’t invited.

From “let’s get this building secured” to “let’s get it properly fixed,” this job came full circle. Temporary solution when it mattered. Permanent replacement when the new door arrived. And thankfully, this door’s days of looking like it lost an argument with a vehicle are officially behind it.

Freshly built. Freshly listed. And yes—we’re looking at the garage doors first.

This new build in Grand Junction’s Redlands just hit the market, and the exterior is a great example of how a garage door doesn’t have to shout to make the house look sharp.

Two Raynor AP138 doors—16' × 8' and 8' × 8'—keep things clean with Flush panels in Sandstone, a warm neutral that settles beautifully into the home’s mix of stucco and siding.

Then there are those contemporary windows running down the right side of each door. A little asymmetry, a lot of visual interest—and just enough obscure glass to give the otherwise understated doors some architectural swagger. The larger door anchors the main garage, while its smaller counterpart carries the same design through for a nicely coordinated façade. Matching without being monotonous. Modern without trying too hard.

And now that the house is officially on the market, somebody gets to call the whole package home.

We’ll admit—we may be slightly biased about one particular part of the curb appeal.

Some garage doors are too good to be a one-and-done.

A few years ago, we worked with the builder to create a set of custom Steel Overlay doors for this Ridgway home’s main garage. Sleek, understated, and designed specifically to complement the architecture, they became very much a part of the home’s look.

Fast-forward a few years, and there’s a new addition to the property: an ADU. And naturally, its garage door needed to speak the same language.

So we were back—this time for a substantial 18’ × 10’ custom Steel Overlay door, designed to match the doors we installed on the main garage. That’s one of the beauties of going custom. It isn’t just about creating something different for the sake of being different. It’s about getting the proportions, materials, lines and details right so the garage door feels like it was designed with the property—not added to it.

One important detail about our custom Steel Overlay doors: they are installed ready for the homeowner or builder to paint, so the final color can be finished on site to coordinate perfectly with the home. And when a property evolves years later? You can carry that same design language right along with it.

Different building. Different size. A few years between installs. Same sharp look tying the whole property together.

We always enjoy getting the call to come back to a project—especially when it means picking up right where we left off.

Sometimes a garage door makeover doesn’t need a whole new personality. If you liked the old look, why reinvent the wheel?

That was the case with this replacement. The homeowners liked the color and classic design of their previous door, so rather than taking the exterior in a completely different direction, they stayed with a similar look—with one small change that makes a surprisingly noticeable difference.

The windows moved down a section.

Unfortunately, we don’t have a photo of the old door when it was actually showing its age, but we do have an earlier photo that gives us a great look at its original design—and, more importantly, where those windows used to sit.

On the previous door, the windows sat in the 4th section, closer to the top. On the new door, they chose to place them in the 3rd section instead.

Same general style. Same familiar feel. But shifting that band of glass lower changes the proportions of the door and gives the eye a different focal point. It’s a good reminder that when it comes to garage doors, window placement is part of the design—not just a way to let in light.

Placed high, windows tend to create a more traditional, top-weighted look. Bring them down a section, and suddenly they become a stronger architectural feature, breaking up the panels and adding a little more visual interest across the face of the door.

The new door is a 12’ × 8’ Raynor BuildMark, finished in White with a Raised Ranch panel and a full section of clear Ranch windows in the 3rd section—a familiar look, just rebalanced a little.

Sometimes a makeover is about making a statement. Other times, it’s simply about keeping what already works and tweaking one detail to make it feel fresh again. No need to reinvent the door—just move the windows.

This install gives us the perfect excuse to put a little spotlight on Raynor Aspen Elements—a great option for homeowners who love the warmth and character of wood but want the durability and lower maintenance of a steel garage door.

And Honey Cedar is making a pretty strong case for itself here.

These two Raynor AP200 doors—an impressive 18’ × 8’ and 12’ × 8’—feature the Raised Ranch panel in Honey Cedar, topped with a full section of clear Ranch windows. The wood-look finish brings plenty of richness and dimension, while those windows break things up beautifully and give the doors an architectural presence worthy of the home around them.

What we especially like about the Aspen Elements finishes is that they let you bring that warm, natural look to the garage without turning the garage door into another wood-maintenance project.

All the warmth. A lot less fuss.

And judging by the finished home, Honey Cedar knew exactly what it was doing. Against the stone, dark gables, and warm exterior tones, these doors don’t just complement the house—they help pull the whole look together.

Two very different door sizes. One cohesive statement.
