Another common land management clearing project includes the cleanup of old dozer piles. Some are set ablaze but as the fire burns down, it runs into a layer of dirt created by the dozer when pushing the debris & vegetation into a pile. When the fire reaches this point, it goes out leaving a sizable pile of both dirt, trees or debris. That's where I come in and remove the debris remnants for disposal or re-stack the trees stumps, trees trunks & vegetation so that they can be burned completely and then grade or spread out what remains so that any trace of the original pile is gone. This looks so much better!!!

I've been busy the past couple of weeks working around the state of Oklahoma. The before and after pics below are taken from a sizable project clearing a grove of "Bradford Pair" trees. I have helped many clients with this problem and am always amazed at how extremely thick they grow. This was a larger tract of land, 5 acres, and while the pics show less than an acre of all that was cleared, it really indicates how effective Forestry Mulching can be.

I'm often asked how big of a tree can I mulch. It depends on the type of tree. Hardwoods like oak, maple, hickory or walnut the diameter is 8"to 10". Softer woods like cedar or pine up to 12" to 14" in diameter. However, the time to mulch a tree all the way to the ground will obviously vary on the diameter of the tree. To say it another way, if you have brush or trees to clear with a diameter of 4" or below, my mulcher can feed those in and spit the entire tree out as mulch very quickly whereas a tree with a diameter of 6" to 8" may take 60 sec or more to completely mulch. So, if you have an area with a significant number of 6" to 8" trees, that area will take longer to clear. I would also note using the same mulcher head, I can cut at ground level any species of tree up to 30" in diameter and stack them in piles to burn later. One final note, it's much easier to mulch a standing tree then those on the ground (Unless they are rotten) because resistance enables the mulcher to operate more efficiently.

As we enter into the rainy season of Oklahoma, the risks increase of getting the rig stuck at job sites. Before we launched the Mr. Mulcher Man YouTube channel, my wife happened to capture some video of what I would call the "dark side" of land clearing. Without any warning, I had found myself in a small spring fed area just beneath the surface. Now, I have been stuck before and now know that once your stuck, don't continue trying to get yourself out under your own power because it only makes things worse. However, even with that knowledge, the desire to get out is so great that on this occasion, I continued trying well after I should have stopped. We didn't shoot much video of the entire process of getting out and perhaps next time, I'll dedicate an entire episode to how you get a 16,000lbs rig unstuck in the woods. Until then, this short clip will give you a small taste of the joy... no, the euphoria of getting yourself out of a very bad situation!!! By the way, thanks to my wife for taking the video and her assistance to the process... love you honey

What is The Best Time of Year to Mulch?
Speaking with potential clients, I am often asked whether it is better to wait until the leaves have fallen before starting the land reclamation process. The fact is, it makes no difference whether the leaves have fallen or not or the time of year in which we operate. It only takes a few seconds to realize that the our method of clearing has no problem reducing leaves, branches, limbs and trees up to 8″ in diameter (softer wood even larger) to mulch. While the ability to peer further into the woods may increase during the colder months of the year, the ability to clear them is not diminished in anyway during the spring and summer months.
