Still running fires here in Florida...

🌧️ We’re getting rain, but we’re not out of the drought yet.

Recent rainfall is helping, but the aquifer has not yet rebounded from months of below-average rainfall. In July, 5.17 inches of water was lost to evaporation and plant use, while 6.84 inches of rain fell, leaving little available to replenish groundwater.

The graphic shows the rainfall needed over the next three months, as of Aug. 5, to end extreme drought conditions.

It will take sustained, above-average rainfall to recover. 💧 Continued conservation remains important.

Lies!! There are plenty of resources...Same old crap every year as we sit idle and Cooperator resources with less training and experience than many of the private contractors that aren't worthless are brought in at 2 to 3 times our daily rates. Ra**ng tax payers while someone is getting their pockets lined with cash...Follow the $$$!!!

We’ve been seeing a lot of discussion online and in the news about the current fire season, and we want to take a moment to clear up some of the confusion.

The stories we’re seeing claim that there is a shortage of fire engines and wildland firefighting resources out here in the west. It’s an easy conclusion to jump to when looking at a fast moving fire season, but the reality on the ground is actually a logistics story, not a resource story.

The reality is, there are hundreds of private contract wildland fire crews and engines that are fully equipped, staffed, and sitting at home ready to deploy.

The shift to the federal VIPR system this year has faced significant backend technical delays. Because these preseason agreements are still sitting in the approval pipeline, many ready-and-willing local contractors cannot be dispatched to nearby incidents yet.

The wildland fire community is ready and waiting to support our federal and state agencies. Getting through the administrative red tape is the fastest way to get wheels on the dirt and extra boots on the line where they are needed most.

Damn it... Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of those lost in this tragic accident and for those in the hospital.

The U.S. Wildland Fire Service is devastated to share that three wildland firefighters lost their lives on Saturday, June 27, as part of an interagency response to the Knowles and Gore fires along the Colorado-Utah border. Additionally, two crew members were injured in the line of duty and have been transported to a hospital.

Our immediate focus is on supporting their families, friends, and fellow crewmates during this incredibly difficult time.

The U.S. Wildland Fire Service stands united with the USDA Forest Service in grief and in our unwavering support for the loved ones left behind. Their bravery, dedication, and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Additional details will be shared as they are able to be released.

Still need a lot more rain...

🌧️ Rainfall over the weekend brought some welcome relief, but drought conditions across northeast and central Florida remain severe.

While many areas received rain, a single weather event cannot make up for months of significant rainfall deficits. 📊 In northeast Florida, nearly 31 inches of rainfall over the next three months would be needed to eliminate current drought conditions.

💧 Residents, businesses, and large water users are encouraged to continue conserving water and follow all mandatory and voluntary watering restrictions currently in place.

Every drop counts as we work together to protect Florida’s water resources.
