Highland Road in Dalton, I'm coming for your decks! Just finished renovating the second one, and there's still another to go. The existing deck had no concrete foundation, so I had to get digging with 10 footers under the posts. Surprise, surprise! But hey, at least the floor board spacing was so tight that it preserved most of the joists underneath. I reused them and added 14 more to withstand the biggest of parties, a structural overkill but I’m sleeping well at night.

The front porch wasn’t left out of this pressure-treated makeover and received new steps, railing and pickets to match the side deck. The previous steps were very steep but now the new ones are safe and easy to use.

This job was tough with the extreme heat but not as tough as finding pressure treated lumber that’s not stained or warped. I don’t know what’s going on, but I must have as many hours sanding as I had building. Rest in peace belt sander.
