Yes! You can have a tropical paradise right here in Wisconsin even during the drought conditions and high temperatures that we are experiencing. Shady areas of your property offer conditions where native and non-native plants can thrive. These spaces provide cooling and calm niches for people and habitat for birds, wildlife and beneficial insects. Very little maintenance is required and we don't water after establishment. Mulch in your landscape is not a design element! So consider leaving out the Green Bay Packers colors in the mulch you purchase. Instead, fill the space with living plants that bring you added benefits without having to continually buy truck loads of shredded bark. You can even grow mushrooms like the w**e caps shown in the photos in your landscaped beds. A bumper crop at our place this spring!
