The Cohas Water Booster Project

This project was started in 2019 and completed in 2020.
This project was a complete electrical and pump upgrade for Manchester New Hampshire Water Works.
This project included the demo of an existing 34.5KV substation. The installation of all new primary yard poles and 34.5KV disconnects and switching along with new 34.5KV surge protection system.
The installation of two new pad mount transformers. One for the 480volt secondary power system for pumps and lighting. The second for a 2500v hydro generation wheel that generates electricity when the local lake elevation supports spillover (Lake Massabesic) .
This station has three water booster pump (2-150hp and 1-300hp) They booster treated drinking water from the main treatment plant out to the system for customers to use and fill two storage tanks in the town of Londonderry.
The station prior to this upgrade had all the VFD’s (Variable frequency drives) and the lighting transformers running on a 2500Volt supply system. Part of this project was to remove all the old gear and replace with a 480volt system and new 480volt VFD’s to meet the horsepower of the new pumps.
This was a difficult task as the system still needed to run 24 hours a day and down time was not an option.
This project had many challenges and this one project got to touch on many different areas our company works. from High Voltage systems to VFD installation and programing, UL. PLC (Programable logic controller) panel building at our panel shop to programing to meet the needs of the customers system. From lights and receptacles to heating and ventilation. This project had it all;
The existing structure of this pump station was built in the 1800’s and the hydro wheel we worked on was installed in the early 1900’s. Some original pictures have been posted.
We have a great crew that works hard and takes pride in what they do!
