🌞 Extreme Heat Advisory – What Homeowners Should Know 🌞
With temperatures climbing well into the 90s this week, we wanted to share a few important reminders.
⚡ Duke Energy Load Control Customers
If you participate in Duke Energy's Load Control Program, your air conditioner may be temporarily cycled off during peak demand periods.
If your home does not have a smart thermostat, Duke Energy may have installed an external load control switch near your outdoor air conditioning unit.
If your outdoor unit suddenly stops running, don't panic! Before calling for service:
✅ Check the Duke Energy load control box near your outdoor unit.
✅ Look for a red or green indicator light.
✅ If the light is glowing or flashing, your A/C compressor is likely being temporarily cycled off by Duke Energy to help reduce strain on the electrical grid.
This is a normal part of the load control program and does not necessarily mean your HVAC system is malfunctioning.
🌡️ What to Expect During Extreme Heat
Most residential HVAC systems in our area are designed to maintain indoor comfort when outdoor temperatures are around 90°F. When temperatures climb above that, your system may:
✔️ Run continuously for extended periods.
✔️ Struggle to keep up with the heat.
✔️ Allow your indoor temperature to be 2–5 degrees warmer than your thermostat setting, especially during the hottest part of the afternoon.
Continuous operation during extreme heat is often normal and simply means your system is working hard to remove heat from your home.
