Just a reminder, light switches and outlets don’t “just stop working”. If they’re not working, you COULD have a dangerous problem. The home where this receptacle was removed was saved by dumb luck. A family member just happened to see what looked like a spark or a flame, and they were able to turn the power off immediately. Light switches and receptacles aren’t designed to last forever, so if you think you may have an issue with an existing device, please don’t hesitate to call me!

What you can’t see may be what can hurt you. The first picture is what this homeowner saw around the time his receptacle stopped working. The second picture is what happened behind the walls. It was hot to the touch, and melted away the plastic surrounding the terminals. If an electrical component stops working, it COULD be dangerous. We can get dirty and do your electrical grunt work, or we can clean up nicely and relocate your $36,000 Baccarat crystal chandelier...we're happy to help in any way we can! This was the final setting of this gorgeous chandelier in NW D.C. We even made some slight, but tasteful modifications to reduce the overall height of the fixture.

Aluminum wiring isn't necessarily going to fail, but it is more likely to fail than copper wiring. This WAS a dryer outlet, fed with aluminum wiring, that caught on fire. If your house was built between the late 1960's and mid 1970's, your house may have aluminum wiring. Give me a call, and if you do have aluminum wiring, we can discuss your options!

We had the pleasure of working in a stunning, old original farmhouse this past week. After decades of electrical additions and upgrades, it needed to be cleaned up, refreshed, and brought up to code. We removed an old, antiquated Federal Pacific panel, and installed a new Square D QO panel. We, along with the homeowner, were very happy with the results!

We wrapped up a great project in Columbia today, and the results were amazing! This is a lovely home, but with lots of mature foliage, some of the rooms end up a bit darker than the homeowners liked. We added recessed lights and wall washers in the family room, and removed some built in strip fixtures from the kitchen. We utilized those existing holes for our new wiring, and added recessed lights there as well. We can't wait to see pictures from the homeowner after drywall and paint!
