Leaf burn…what should you do?

I don’t know about you, but it’s taking a lot of self control NOT to snip off every burnt leaf and bloom on my plants after the heat wave we experienced.

Many plants have experienced some degree of leaf burn, so here are some tips on how we can do to nurse them back to health.

1. Give plants a week or two to recover from the shock and acclimate to the leaf loss and burn. Waiting awhile helps to protect the healthy leaves from sun exposure and further leaf burn. The plants need a little time to recover moisture and nutrients, and redistribute to the healthy new growth.

2. After a few weeks, it’s ok to go in and lightly prune. Take off the most obviously damaged leaves and stems, then wait a few weeks for additional pruning. It’s best to wait for a few cooler or cloudy days if possible. Keep in mind, it’s important to not take off more than 1/3 of the plant, which would lead to more damage and stress to the plant.

3. Make sure you continue to water your plants well, and fertilize when necessary. This will help your plants recover and hopefully bounce back beautifully.

If you’re on our weekly maintenance route, our awesome crew will be handling this for you as they see fit. 😎

Have a great weekend!
