At Vedder Construction, LLC, no project is too big—or too complex. Recently, we were called in to solve an intriguing problem: a failing basement wall supported by a tree trunk. It may sound like a problem with no easy solution, but for us, it was just another day in the world of innovative construction.
Here’s what happened:
A client reached out to us about a basement wall that had started to buckle, literally held in place by the trunk of a tree. As is often the case with older homes, unexpected structural issues can arise that challenge even the most seasoned contractors. In this case, the tree was doing its best to act as a support, but we knew it was only a matter of time before the wall would give way entirely.
When faced with a structural issue like this, sometimes a simple repair isn’t enough. Instead of just fixing the basement wall, we took a step back and looked at the bigger picture. After assessing the property, we presented the client with a plan that included not just repairing the wall, but a full-scale renovation that would improve the flow and function of their home.
Here’s what the project ended up looking like:
A Two-Story Rear Addition
A Four Season Front Porch
Full Interior Demo and Renovation
Even squeezed in a Two-Car Garage
This project is a work in progress, and we’re now entering the final stages of construction. As we wrap up the structural side of this renovation, we can’t wait to show you the "pretty side"—the finishing touches, design elements, and transformation coming to life.
Stay tuned for more updated pictures as we complete this exciting project. We’re thrilled to share the final result soon!
