Parks and recreation planning isn’t just about improving spaces. It’s about understanding how those spaces become part of everyday life.

Through the Amenia Parks & Recreation Master Plan, Nexus Creative Design worked alongside residents to learn how they experience their parks, trails, and public spaces today. Through workshops, visual engagement tools, surveys, and conversations, community members helped identify what was working, what was missing, and what mattered most to them. That feedback became the foundation for recommendations that reflect the character, priorities, and future of Amenia.

At Nexus Creative Design, we’ve seen through our work with municipalities and developers how parks and recreation create opportunities for people to gather, connect, and experience the places they call home. These spaces become part of a community’s identity, which is why thoughtful planning matters.

There’s no substitute for seeing a project in person.

Our interns recently visited three of our construction projects, the Olive Opera, Crescent Manor, and a single-family residence in Rye to experience firsthand how ideas move from planning to reality. Seeing projects at different stages of design and construction, across a wide range of scales and typologies, gave them valuable insight into the many paths architecture can take.

One of the things we’re most proud of at Nexus Creative Design is our ability to seamlessly move between projects of varying complexity, scale, and building types. It’s both an art and a responsibility that challenges us as designers while giving our team the opportunity to gain experience across a diverse portfolio. Experiences like these help our interns begin to discover where their own interests and passions may lead them within the profession.

Our team joined AIA Westchester Hudson Valley for a tour of Petra Island, home to Frank Lloyd Wright’s Chahroudi Cottage and the Massaro House.

Spending time in spaces like these is a chance to step away from our day-to-day, experience great architecture firsthand, and appreciate the ideas, details, and craftsmanship that continue to influence design today.

Returning from the AIA Conference on Architecture & Design 2026, our Nexus Creative team is inspired by the state of the profession and the conversations shaping where it is headed.

Across the conference, the most resonant takeaways centered on leadership in all its forms. Individual leadership, firm leadership, community leadership, and the kind of civic leadership that helps strengthen the places we serve. San Diego offered a powerful backdrop for that discussion, with a built environment that reflects what is possible when architects, planners, policymakers, and community partners work together with vision and intention.

The conference also reinforced the importance of staying open to change. AI, evolving practice models, mentorship, business strategy, and firm culture were all part of a broader conversation about how our profession continues to adapt while remaining human and relationship-driven.

We’re back, energized to continue to bring learned perspectives to our work, our clients, and the communities we support.

Honored to attend the 9th Annual Hudson Valley Affordable Housing Summit hosted by Pace Land Use Law Center and Housing Action Council. Insightful discussions throughout the day focused on zoning, municipal land strategies, housing production, and advancing affordability across New York communities.

A particularly meaningful moment included James Wendling of WBP sharing how Rose Noonan’s legacy is being honored through the naming of a new WBP affordable housing development in New Rochelle, Rose on Main. The thoughtful tribute recognizes Rose’s lasting impact through Housing Action Council just one year after her passing.

Tiffany Zezula shared a fitting tribute to Rose, reminding attendees of her incredible energy and influence throughout the region. Rose’s work helped shape affordable housing efforts across the Hudson Valley and established a foundation that continues to guide communities today.

It was great seeing City of Kingston Director of Housing Initiatives, Bartek Starodaj, speaking to many of the same housing challenges facing Ulster County that we continue to navigate in Westchester County and surrounding communities.

The day concluded with remarks from NYS Homes and Community Renewal Commissioner RuthAnne Visnauskas, reinforcing the importance of collaboration, housing choice, and continued progress toward meeting our housing needs.

We had the pleasure of presenting at the ADU Expo in Kingston in April, hosted by and the City of Kingston.

John Fry and Jaclyn Tyler took the stage to break down what it actually takes to make ADUs work: not just great design, but the zoning, financial pathways, and community context that make them possible.

The talk reframed ADUs as Neighborhood Embedded Units, recognizing the garage apartments, granny flats, and in-law suites that have always been part of how American neighborhoods grow and adapt.

Thank you to everyone who attended, asked questions, and shared their own stories.
