Fun Fact Friday! 😄

Did you know that the Canadian Museum of Civilization in Ottawa uses 124 commercial steam humidifiers that are built into the building's HVAC system? 🏦

The Museum covers about 1 million square feet with millions of historical artifacts on display. The humidifiers help protect these artifacts from damage that could be caused by changes in the humidity. 🖼️

The museum uses individual units throughout the building to help maintain the right humidity for the different pieces in its priceless collection. 🏺

Humidifiers do more than keep you comfortable, they can also protect what is inside your home as well! 🏠

Fun Fact Friday!😁

Did you know that Otto Hoffman was granted a British patent for an apparatus designed for "humidifying and spraying" air in 1895? 📜

Inventors developed different ways to add moisture to the air throughout the following decades. 💧💧

Whole home humidifiers today are a bit more sophisticated. However, the goal is still the same: to help maintain a more balanced indoor environment and improve indoor comfort. 🏠

Heating has come a long way since this old Trane ad.🔥

Did you know that Leonardo da Vinci invented the first hygrometer in 1480? 💧

A hygrometer is an instrument that measures humidity. Da Vinci's hygrometer consisted of a balance with 2 balancing pans holding a piece of beeswax in one and a hygroscopic substance like a cotton ball in the other. ⚖️

If the cotton absorbed moisture from the air its weight would increase and then a horizontal graduated stick would mark the exact measurement. 💧💧

We still use a more modern version of da Vinci's hygrometer today. As winter approaches, make sure the humidity in your house is at the EPA recommended level to keep your home comfortable as the temperatures drop. 🏠

Humidifier vs Dehumidifier: which is the right choice for your home?

Both of these have the same goal-maintaining indoor humidity in the EPA‑recommended 30–50% range.

Humidifiers add water v***r to the air while dehumidifiers remove excess moisture from the air.

Did you know that old schoolhouse stoves had built-in humidifiers for their classrooms?🏫

In some historic American schoolhouses a water font was used with wood or coal burning stoves. A water font is a built-in vessel that held water. The water would ev***rate as the stove heated up. This would help with the humidity in the classroom. 🔥💧

The technology has advanced but the idea is still the same. In the winter the cold outdoor air and heating systems lower indoor humidity. Humidifiers add moisture to the air and help keep you comfortable. ❤️
