The Small Business Person of the Year is Mike Bevis, who co-owns Bevis Construction Inc. with his wife Kyle. Their company focuses on commercial, industrial and health care construction in this region and Bevis has 45 years of experience in the construction industry, the Chamber release states

“I've been a part of this community my whole life … and the people that work for me are good, hard-working people and (I'm) proud that we can pay them a good wage,” Bevis said. “We've got probably 50 people on the payroll right now. Anyway, we're just glad to be a part of this community.”

Bevis said he was “speechless” when he was first told he had won the award and thought it might have been a prank.

“But then when it set in as a reality, I mean it really, it means so much to me,” Bevis said.

Bevis has served on several boards and was also a member of the Mt. Vernon Jaycees and the Mt. Vernon Elks Lodge 819. In addition, he was a 2014 inductee to the Mt. Vernon Township High School Sports Hall of Fame.
