Jeffrey Dungan Architects

Jeffrey Dungan Architects Award winning custom residential design with boutique projects across the country and internationally We truly believe design has that kind of power.

Jeffrey Dungan discovered a love for art and drawing at a young age while growing up on a family farm in rural Alabama. The surrounding nature with its trees of elegance and verticality would become the inspiration for years of studying and creating beautiful architecture. After graduating from Auburn University, Dungan would eventually start Dungan-Nequette 1999 and lead the company to dozens of

awards for residential and commercial design from Nova Scotia to the Bahamas. Located in the rolling topography of Birmingham, AL, Dungan started Jeffery Dungan Architects in 2015. Jeffery Dungan Architects is a passionate group who take pride in the creative design. Our work takes a clean and modern approach to traditional vernaculars and classical architecture. The mission is simple: to affect the livelihood of our clients in a way that simply enriches their lives. Whether building in Maine, Napa or Ireland, each of JDA’s projects begins and ends the with people we are fortunate enough to work with. In all of our creative endeavors we enjoy wonderful relationships that last well beyond the finished structure. The work created for our clients has been featured in publications from The Wall Street Journal to Garden & Gun. In 2015 Jeffrey Dungan was honored to be named a Fellow by the Institute of Classical Art and Architecture.

Reflections move differently on the river.

There’s a quiet understanding that the water is always carrying something forward; toward the ocean, toward memory, toward the deeper things that slow us down enough to see clearly again.

Along the edge of Lake Wehapa, the house is formed by the meeting of things—stone, water, light—each one revering the landscape it sits within.

Materials come together with a kind of restraint, allowing the lake to lead, opening the house outward and, in turn, opening something inward.

A place that invites reflection as much as it frames it.

Design is a fabric—

a weaving of memory, reference, instinct, and imagination.

It’s made slowly, gathered from what we’ve seen, what we’ve felt, and what we hope to make real.

In the end, it’s less about invention

and more about recognizing something that was already there, waiting to be brought into form.

This house was made to hold the fullness of life...rest, connection, joy, and time together.

Windows frame the landscape like a gallery, each view holding a different moment of the lake.

A style that shaped my early thinking , the English Arts and Crafts movement, felt at home here in Los Angeles.

With interiors by Joe Lucas, we approached the house from the inside out on a compact site, blending a bit of mid-century ease with older English elements.

The result is a house that feels as spirited as the people who live in it.

By the ocean, you begin to notice patterns —
light on water, wind on sand, the rhythm of the tide.

Architecture here simply follows what nature has already begun.

From above, it’s the land that tells the story…
The sound of waves breaking against the edge.
Light moving across forest and stone.
A home held gently between them.
