Well it looks like spring has finally arrived! With the temperatures rising, this months safety tip is related to attic exhaust fans. An improperly working fan can create a significant fire hazard. Already this spring I have seen 3 examples where not only were the fans not wired correctly but they were "locked up" preventing the fan from running. This can cause a cascade of events that can have devastating consequences. If you have an attic exhaust fan and haven't heard it running we can help troubleshoot the unit. Welcome to meteorological spring????, it looked like we were turning the corner on winter and BAM! here it is again. Oh well, spring will get here and that means you'll be working in the yard using all kinds of lawn equipment. For those that are required to be plugged in, they should be plugged into an outlet that is Ground Fault protected or commonly known as a GFCI outlet. They should be tested monthly by pressing the test and reset buttons with and without something plugged in. If they do not work correctly this can be a very dangerous and SHOCKING experience. Good Morning and welcome to September. Summer is winding down, kids are back at school and there's a hint of chill in the air. This months safety tip is a reminder that it's time to check your smoke and carbon monoxide detector batteries and how old the units are. There should be a date code printed on the back and batteries should be changed AT LEAST once a year. If the detector is over 7 years old, replace it. We can provide this service for you as well as recommend enhancing your protections. Our fall special will be our electrical maintenance and safety inspection package again. Welcome to meteorological summer!!! Sorry I missed last months update so I'll double up this month. The first is a safety tip for those who have pools. It is critically important that the pool equipment and all metal parts associated with the pool be properly grounded and bonded. This will minimize the potential for a life threatening shock hazard. At the minimum a GFCI outlet should be present at the pool pump outlet. We can provide an analysis of your existing installation. The second is with summer here for at least the next 3 days, think about having ceiling fans installed to provide cool, refreshing air movement on those hot summer days and nights. We can provide new openings in the ceilings, many times it can be done without damaging the existing finishes.
