It is with a heavy heart that I share this post…Dick was a good man and a great employee for Umbdenstock Electric for 27 years!!!

Richard Alan Wells, 87 of Mundelein, IL stepped in the presence of God on Tuesday, April 2, 2024. He was born on November 5, 1936, to the late Paul and Mary LaVerne Wells and lived most of his life in Mundelein. Visitation for Richard will be Saturday, April 6 from

It is with a heavy heart that Countryside recognizes the loss of one of our former members, Assistant Chief Ken Umbdenstock, at the age of 86. A/C Umbdenstock served the residents of the Countryside Fire Protection District from 1959 until his retirement as Assistant Chief in 1990. An electrician by trade, A/C Umbdenstock made community a priority and volunteered as a fireman for Countryside…even being one of the men that built the original station on Midlothian Rd. We keep the Umbdenstock Family in our thoughts as we remember A/C Ken Umbdenstock.

It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of a legend, Ken Umbdenstock. He started this business back in 1969 with his wife Caryle, and was very proud to be a part of this community he loved and raised his children in. He wore countless hats as an assistant fire chief for decades, a coach to many, a sponsor for countless sports leagues, a US Army veteran, and established a legacy as his most important role of being a father and grandfather. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him and remembered in the stories we continue to talk about, the one-liners we laugh about, and the smiles we share when we hear Bluegrass music.

We celebrate Ken’s life this Thursday, March 14th at Kristan Funeral Home in Mundelein. Visitation from 9am-12pm, funeral to follow. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you consider making a donation to the Countryside Firefighters Association to help restore 1940 Old Engine No. 1 at the QR code below. Ken had the pleasure of working on this Engine and it would be an honor to be a part of restoring this part of history.
