Why We Spray Our Control Products vs. Granulars with Sparged Controls 🌿

At Deep Roots Turf Solutions, we spray our control products—like w**d killers and insecticides—because it ensures even coverage and immediate contact with the target pests or w**ds. Spraying allows us to directly hit the problem areas, whether that’s broadleaf w**ds or insects in your lawn, ensuring quick absorption and better performance.

Some companies use granular fertilizers with control products sparged on—meaning the control product is lightly coated onto the granule. The issue here is that:
• It relies on watering or rain to activate and move the product into the soil or onto the leaf surface.
• Coverage is less precise, as granules fall in between blades and aren’t always where the w**ds or pests are.
• Sparged products may break down in heat or sunlight before they become active, reducing effectiveness.
• It’s more of a generalized treatment, not a targeted approach.

We choose to spray because it allows us to be selective, efficient, and effective. You’re paying for a solution that works where and when you need it—not just a coated granule that may or may not reach the problem.

Not all potassium sources are created equal! When it comes to building a strong, stress-resistant lawn, we only use SOP (Sulfate of Potash)—and here’s why:

✅ Low salt index – gentle on grass, even in heat
✅ No chloride – safer for your soil and roots
✅ Adds sulfur – boosts turf health and color
✅ Promotes disease and drought resistance

🚫 Unlike MOP (Muriate of Potash), which is high in salts and contains chloride (not great for lawns), SOP delivers the nutrients your lawn needs without the stress.

In a fertilizer labeled 18-0-3, the numbers represent the percentage by weight of Nitrogen N, Phosphorus P, and Potassium K— the key nutrients your lawn needs. That adds up to just 21% active nutrients, meaning the other 79% is filler.

Many large companies use cheap materials like limestone, sand, or even crushed rock to bulk up their product. It adds weight but does nothing for your lawn.
