Well... just when you think we're in the home stretch, Mother Nature reminds us that it's still winter for another week. 😳

The greatest daily temperature ranges (difference between high temperature and low temperature) occur during the winter and spring months, with the highest average ranges occurring during the month of March.

March is called a "Swing Month" which by definition means active weather. There's still plenty of cold air over the northern hemisphere, but with the increasing sun angle and subsequent boost in solar energy coming in, lots of warming also takes place over the south. So the contrast in air temperature from south to north increases with big air mass clashes frequently forming and fueling storms which act as the atmosphere's thermostat driving cold air south and warm air north. The more extreme the contrast in temperature the more intense the storms. ⚡️⛈⚡️

Spring is upon us! The USA is famous for its crazy weather. Nowhere else on Earth will you find such a diverse mixture of events, year-round. We’ve got it all—from blizzard conditions to heatwaves, tornadoes, hurricanes and derechos, floods and wildfires, extreme droughts and torrential rainfall. Some parts of the country are just unlucky enough to experience most or all of these catastrophic weather events as the seasons change.

Between March and June are the wildest months—particularly for people in Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia. Crazy spring weather isn’t limited to these states, however. It’s a volatile time of year as we move between winter and summer which means that weird spring weather can happen just about anywhere.

How does hail cause damage to your home's exteriors?

Size and density – The size of the hailstones can affect the degree of damage. A hailstone can be as small as a pea, or as large as a softball. Most hailstones do not have smooth edges, which can impact the type of damage they cause.

Wind – During a hailstorm, wind direction and wind speed can vary. Changes in wind conditions can affect the location and severity of hail impacts.

Building materials – Building materials absorb hail impacts differently. For example, hail can cause dings in aluminum siding, gutters or asphalt shingles, whereas it can crack vinyl siding or wood shakes. Additionally, the age and condition of a roof could affect the degree of damage.

Barriers – The position of neighboring structures and natural barriers, like tree cover, landscaping, fences or adjacent homes can reduce the ability of hail to cause damage.
