Preventing Frozen & Burst Pipes During a Winter Storm

Freezing temperatures can cause pipes to freeze and burst, leading to costly water damage. Taking a few simple precautions before a winter storm can help protect your home or business.

To reduce the risk of frozen or burst pipes:

💧 Insulate exposed pipes in attics, crawl spaces, basements, and exterior walls
💧 Seal cracks and openings around doors, windows, and foundations where cold air can enter
💧 Keep interior temperatures consistent, even overnight or when the building is unoccupied
💧 Allow faucets to drip slightly to keep water moving during extreme cold
💧 Open cabinet doors under sinks to allow warm air to circulate around plumbing
💧 Disconnect and drain outdoor hoses; shut off and winterize exterior water lines
💧 Know where your main water shut-off valve is located in case of an emergency

A little preparation can prevent major damage—protecting your pipes before the cold hits can save you time, money, and stress during winter weather.
