Helpful Tips
1. Never pour grease or oil down your drains; it eventually causes serious pipe clogging.
2. Use a hair strainer for your bath/shower and sink drains to prevent clogging from hair.
3. Know where your main water valve is in your home-knowing the location and that the valve works can save a lot of water damage from burst pipes.
4. Only flush body waste and toilet paper. Any other item may eventually cause blocking in your toilet or further down the line in the main sewage line.
5. To check if your toilet is water tight, put a few drops of food colouring in the tank and see if it seeps through into the bowl. If it does, you are losing water.
6. Make sure your outside hose tap and hoses are drained of water before winter, to prevent pipe splitting or cracking from freezing.
7. Try not to cover your drain access points in your basement with carpeting or closets. These need to be accessible to aid in clearing sewage line blockages.
8. Prevent frozen pipes by ensuring air circulates the entire home, keeping your house temperature at a minimum of 16C and insulating as many outside wall plumbing lines as possible.
9. Avoid using chemical cleaners in your drains. These are caustic to your pipes and can be hazardous to yourself or one of our plumbers working on your blockage.
