Summer is the best time to check for leaks, since a long winter can have an impact on plumbing that we can’t even see, and you want a chance during warm weather to take care of any issues before it gets cold again.

For the toilet: Put food coloring in the tank to see if it leaks to the bowl without you flushing the toilet. Check the tank floater and the valve it’s attached to. The rubber float and its arm-like hardware wears out over time, and more quickly in hard water situations. The floater valve must be seated correctly, or it allows water to leak out and your toilet to run — It probably makes noise while it does so.

Tips & Tricks with Devlin Plumbing Service!

Is your shower head not performing like it used to? Over time mineral deposits can build up which can cause the nozzles to sq**rt water in all directions or clog up completely, leaving you with poor water pressure or low flow.

Here are our top tips to help get your shower head back to peak performance.

#1 Rub the Nozzles
Many shower heads have flexible rubber nozzles. You can dislodge mineral buildup in these nozzles by simply massaging each nozzle with your finger. You can also try gently scrubbing the nozzles with a toothbrush.

#2 Soak the Shower Head in Vinegar
There are a couple ways to do this:
* If you prefer to leave the shower head attached to the pipe coming out of the wall, you can fill a plastic bag with vinegar and wrap it around the shower head.
* Secure the bag around the head with a rubber band, tape, or a twist tie.
* Leave the bag around the shower head for a few hours.
* Remove the bag and turn on the water for a few minutes to clear the vinegar out of the shower head.
* If you don't mind removing the head from the shower pipe, you can submerge the shower head in a container full of white vinegar.
* Let the shower head soak in the vinegar for a few hours.
* Re-attach the shower head to the shower pipe and run water through the head for a few minutes to clear out the vinegar.

Summer brings lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, but not all of them are good for your kitchen garbage disposal. Avoid foods that are stringy, such as celery, banana peels, and corn husk, as well as hard melon rinds, chicken skin or meat fat and vegetation from carrots or other produce.

These and other bulky, starchy or tough items can form clogs and get wound around the blade. Grease and oil are not good for the garbage disposal or your home environment for summer. Oily substances tend to stick to the inside of your pipes, solidify and leave a gunk that not only attracts roaches but also bulky materials that build up and form clogs.
