These are the before and after photos of 2 staircases we just rebuilt in Surfside Beach. Permitted and Inspected. The old stairs were sagging and were originally built with a couple falling/tripping hazards, which we alleviated. The clients liked the existing railings, so we retained them and fabricated graspable hand rails. All new stringers were hand cut, and a concrete slab was poured at the bottom of each flight. We reconfigured the front stairs and added balusters and a 2nd hand rail to the back stairs. Me and my son do all the work. I know we dont look like much, but our work is excellent. And, like they say on that old sitcom, "If women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy."

These are the before and after photos of a permitted facelift we just performed in Surfside Beach.
First we replaced the aged back staircase and added a 15'x4' platform using composite decking. Everything is legit, framed in 2x10, structural screws, lots of concrete, joist hangers, joist tape, picture framed boards, and a concrete slab at the foot of the hand cut stair stringers.
We also replaced the front step, and added a concrete slab for an easier traverse from the driveway.
Finally, a new composite ramp leading into the shed.

These are the before and after photos of a beautiful project we completed yesterday. We refurbished the staircase and landings and built a bar underneath. All new stair stringers were hand cut. Their number was increased from 3 to 5 for added strength. Framing was beefed up where needed, with extra stringers, joists, metal joist hangers, and structural screws. The product is Stone Grey Veranda composite decking. It's attractive, not too dark, and we have had really good luck with it. The landings and stairs are capped for a finished appearance. The landings are picture framed. The bar is framed really sturdy and secured to the house posts in case a guest wishes to dance on it. Finished in T-111 plywood with dual 2x12s for the top.
The last step is staining once it dries out.

These are the before and after photos of a deck we just replaced in Murrells Inlet. We upgraded to composite decking and added a screened porch with Pet Screen (kinda like chain of mail) from the middle ages. The deck boards are picture framed, and the beams and stairs are capped. The stair stringers are hand cut and sit on a poured slab instead of dirt. We fabricated a hinged access door for underneath. We did something a little different by capping the roof fascia boards with composite decking so it matches the deck. I stopped by the next day in the pouring rain for photos. No leaks, no issues. Clients are very happy. Last step is applying a white solid stain to the wood parts when they dry.

These are the before and after photos of 2 staircases we recently replaced with composite decking. They look really nice. The old wood stairs were uneven and tilted away from the house. We cut all new stringers for level and even rises and runs, and set them on concrete.

These are photos of 2 beautiful pergolas. The 1st one we built a couple weeks ago in Surfside Beach. We stopped back for photos after the electrician installed the ceiling fan and hanging lights.
The 2nd one I encountered on a trip to the keys last month. The outer post dimensions are only about 5x8 but the detail is incredible. I would love to meet the craftsman who built this. I don't know what type of lumber was used, but it looks unfinished and has developed a beautiful patina from the constant ocean breeze.

We just completed construction of this beautiful, permitted, 20'x20' pergola in Surfside Beach. We start with a pile of lumber and everything is hand carved, fabricated, and notched together on site. These clients elected the polycarbonate roof for protection from rain. The black structural/decorative brackets look really nice. A routered mount for a ceiling fan is included.

We just built this beautiful composite deck in Surfside Beach. Permitted and inspected. Framed in 2x10, it is held together with a generous amount of structural screws and metal joist hangers and brackets. Rubber joist tape was also installed to increase longevity of the framing. While it takes longer, we always like to picture frame the deck boards for a professional finished look. This client chose the black aluminum balusters with the white composite railings. It looks really nice. The stair stringers are hand cut for even rises and runs, and sit on a new cement slab rather than dirt. We capped the sides with composite boards, spaced to allow ventilation while keeping animals out. We fabricated a hinged and lockable access door.

These are the before and after photos of a project my son Mike K***a just completed. He resurfaced a ramp and landing, and rebuilt a staircase. He wouldn't let me help.
"I got this one Dad. Take a few days off". He's a good son.
Done in composite, the ramp is capped and the landing is picture framed for a professional appearance. 4 new stair stringers were cut. The clients are very happy and are having him complete additional projects.

Here is a Privacy Wall project that Mike just completed. It looks really nice. We built the pergola last year. The clients just added a hot tub. He shadow boxed the cover boards as the clients wanted air flow through the wall along with privacy. Everything fits between the 6x6 posts for a finished look. Topped with a capping board and decorative post caps.

These are the photos of a free standing metal roof patio cover we built this week. We built the pavillion a few years ago. The clients spend the majority of their time out there. They needed additional shaded space for an eating area and wanted to be able to traverse from their home to the pavillion when it rains. We dug deep footings, and used oversized beams, rafters, and anti-sway bracing. The posts are notched to support the beams. Everything is held together with deck screws, structural screws, and hurricane ties. The seamless gutter guy is coming this week to direct all rain water to the rear of the property. The electrician is running a circuit and installing a ceiling fan and outlets.
