When asks you to come out to get some more tree work done the answer is yes, as long as there's ribs. Just kidding we would still do it. I can't believe how good these are. There are not words that do it justice. Truly a masterpiece.

We had a few storm jobs in the last couple days. This mature spruce had a little bit of root rot going on and tipped over in the wind on Saturday. Luckily we were available to get this tree off the house so the homeowner could get the necessary repairs done as soon as possible to prevent further damages. This one was a little bit tricky because of the weight of the wood leaning on the house. But, we figured it out and got it done safely without causing any further damage.

Here are some pictures of why I never recommend planting maple trees especially in Nampa. The soil is not ideal for maples (too alkaline) and maple trees have root issues. Here are some examples of root dysfunction that I have seen this spring. The roots girdle themselves cutting off water flow to the canopy and leaves which in turn causes the leaves and south facing bark to overheat and die. Check out the tree that is missing half of it's leaves. If you want to know what trees work better in our area feel free to call me or just plant lindens.

I took these pictures in the same place 6 days apart. It only took us 100+ man hours and 30 trips with the dump truck. It kind of blows my mind that we actually got this done. The more we do the better we get.

Why is this sky rocket juniper bush dying while the others seem ok? The one that is declining has dysfunctional roots. The bush was probably left in the container too long and became root bound. So now the roots have girdled the plant preventing water flow to the leaves. I cut a few of the girdling roots and now we will see if it was too little too late or if it can be salvaged.

This is what happens when tree roots are dysfunctional. We see this alot with maple trees. It is caused by a few things. Most of those things are human error. Planting the tree too deep, not removing the burlap/twine or allowing grass to grow up against the tree. Tree roots need air, if tree roots cannot access air they will develop tiny little roots that grow up toward the surface. Eventually these little roots become big roots and twist around the main roots of the tree restricting the water flow to the leaves of the tree. With insufficient water flow the sun heats the tree to death and the bark falls off on the side facing the sun. This is very common. So, when you plant trees it is best to follow the ANSI A300 standards for tree care and ignore everyone else. I don't care what the nursery says I follow the American National Standards Institute. If you ever have any questions about any of this feel free to ask me and we can make our urban trees better.
