🔧 Wednesday Wins: Employee Highlight 🔧He may hate this post—but today we’re proud to feature Bret Smith, highlighted in the Kern County NECA Newsletter (June 2026) 👏

Bret serves as Bronco Electric’s Secretary-Treasurer, where his leadership helps drive the company’s continued success and steady growth. In addition to his role at Bronco Electric, he also serves as NECA’s Kern County Chapter President, currently in his second term, supporting both the industry and the local community.

At Bronco Electric, Bret’s influence extends beyond daily operations—his commitment to strong leadership, strategic planning, and industry involvement helps position the company and its team for long-term success in a competitive and evolving field.

One of the highlights of this year was the recent Chapter Board Retreat at Disneyland, where Board Members and their families came together to strengthen relationships, build lasting connections, and reinforce the unity that supports companies like Bronco Electric and the Chapter as a whole.

The Chapter continues to see impressive momentum—approaching nearly 300,000 work hours in March 2026 -with even more large-scale projects on the horizon. This growth reflects the strength of member contractors like Bronco Electric and the leadership behind them.

On a national level, Bret has served on the Electri Service and Maintenance Task Force, contributing to industry research and helping bring recognition back to the Chapter and its contractors.
He is also involved in ongoing efforts to develop benchmarking resources that will support contractor growth—including companies like Bronco Electric—for years to come.

Looking ahead, the upcoming JATC Training Facility will further strengthen the workforce pipeline, creating new opportunities for companies like Bronco Electric to continue building skilled teams and supporting the next generation of electrical professionals.

👏 Thank you, Bret, for your leadership, dedication, and the impact you continue to make at Bronco Electric and throughout Kern County.

🔧 Tech Tuesday: Why Safety Codes Matter More Than You Think
Every day, whether you’re charging your phone, driving across town, or sitting in your office, safety codes and standards are quietly working in the background to protect you. From electrical systems to construction practices, these standards are designed to prevent accidents, reduce risks, and keep our communities running safely.
But here’s the key: these protections don’t happen by chance.
Independent safety standards are carefully developed by experts who study real-world hazards, analyze data, and continuously improve guidelines to keep up with evolving technology. That independence matters—it ensures that safety decisions are based on what protects people, not profits.
⚡ Why it matters for the future:

Technology is advancing rapidly—smart homes, renewable energy, and new electrical systems all bring new risks.
Strong, unbiased safety standards help ensure innovation doesn’t outpace protection.
Communities stay safer when everyone—workers, homeowners, and businesses—understands and supports these codes.

âś… Real impact you may not notice:

Reduced electrical fires
Safer workplaces
More reliable infrastructure
Protection for families and first responders

This Tech Tuesday, take a moment to learn how these standards shape the world around you—and how you play a role in supporting them.

🌟 Feel Good Friday Feature 🌟

Zane & Cole Smith – Brotherhood, Leadership, and the Future of Bronco Electric, Inc.

This Feel Good Friday, we’re shining the spotlight on two individuals whose journey is built on commitment, resilience, and an unbreakable bond—Zane and Cole Smith.

Their story isn’t just about years on the calendar—it’s about growth, leadership, and helping shape the future of Bronco Electric, Inc.

đź“… Celebrating key anniversaries:
• Zane Smith – June 2, 2009
• Cole Smith – June 9, 2011

With over a decade of dedication each, these milestones represent more than time served—they reflect years of showing up, learning, leading, and pushing forward through every challenge.

🏔️ Zane Smith – Expanding the Vision in Nampa, Idaho
Zane Smith is driving growth in a big way—leading our Nampa, Idaho expansion with vision and determination while remaining heavily involved in our Bakersfield, California operations.

Serving as our New Construction Estimator and New Construction Projects Administrator, Zane plays a critical role in planning, coordinating, and executing projects from the ground up. In addition, he leads all CAD, Revit, and BIM project layout, design, and modeling for the company, helping ensure precision, efficiency, and innovation across every job.

Building and expanding into a new region takes more than skill—it takes courage, adaptability, and a willingness to take on challenges head-on. Zane has embraced that responsibility, successfully growing Bronco Electric’s presence while developing strong relationships and opportunities in the Boise/Nampa area.

From pre-construction planning to advanced design and field coordination, Zane represents what it means to grow beyond your comfort zone and lead with purpose. His work in Idaho isn’t just about expansion—it’s about building a strong foundation for long-term success.

🔧 Cole Smith – Leading from the Front in Bakersfield, California
Right here in Bakersfield, Cole has established himself as a cornerstone of Bronco Electric’s day-to-day operations. As the leader of the Service Department, he plays a critical role in keeping projects moving, customers supported, and the team running at full strength.

Cole brings a hands-on leadership style that blends technical expertise with a calm, solutions-first mindset. He understands that service work is often fast-paced and unpredictable—but through preparation, strong communication, and accountability, he ensures the job gets done right the first time.

In addition to his primary responsibilities, Cole also steps in as a Field Foreman when needed, providing leadership in the field and ensuring continuity across projects.

More than that, Cole sets the tone for his team. Whether he’s mentoring newer technicians, solving complex field issues, or coordinating logistics behind the scenes, his consistency and reliability have built trust across the company. He’s not just managing a department—he’s strengthening a culture of excellence.

⚡ Together – The Future of Bronco Electric
What makes this story even more powerful is that it’s built on brotherhood. Zane and Cole don’t just share a last name—they share values: hard work, accountability, and the drive to keep improving.

Together, they represent the next generation of leadership at Bronco Electric—balancing field expertise with forward-thinking vision. One is expanding into new regions while the other strengthens operations at home, and their combined impact is shaping the company’s future in real, meaningful ways.

Their journey shows what’s possible when dedication meets opportunity—when you stay committed not just to your own success, but to lifting up the team and the company along the way.

đź’Ş A Culture of Growth & Grit
Zane and Cole’s paths haven’t been built overnight. Their success comes from years of persistence, learning through challenges, and consistently choosing to grow.

They remind us that progress isn’t always loud—it’s built day by day, job by job, and decision by decision.

Their story captures what Bronco Electric is all about: stepping up, taking ownership, and pushing forward no matter the obstacles.

So this Feel Good Friday, we celebrate not just two anniversaries—but two leaders who continue to make a lasting impact.

Zane and Cole—thank you for everything you do. The future is bright.

⚡ TECH TUESDAY | NEC CODE CLARITY ⚡

Think the 20% fill rule applies everywhere along a wireway? Think again.

âť“ Code Question of the Day:
Does the 20% fill rule in NEC Section 376.22 apply at every point along a metal wireway, or only where the most conductors are present?

âś… The Answer:
The 20% fill requirement applies at the cross section where the greatest number of conductors are present at the same time—not throughout the entire wireway.

📚 NEC 376.22(A) requires that the total cross-sectional area of conductors at any given cross section not exceed 20% of the wireway's interior cross-sectional area.

🔍 What to Remember:
• Focus on the location with the highest conductor concentration.
• Use Chapter 9, Table 5 to determine conductor area.
• Splice points and tap locations are often the critical sections.
• More than 30 current-carrying conductors? Don't forget ampacity adjustments under NEC 310.15(C).

đź’ˇ Pro Tip:
When sizing wireways, don't average conductor fill across the run. Always evaluate the most heavily populated cross section to ensure compliance.
At Bronco Electric Idaho, we're committed to staying ahead of code changes and delivering safe, compliant installations every time.
