Brenda Abel-Kiser has been part of Nova for 44 years.

Since joining the company in 1982, she has worked across many areas of the business — spending seven years in the shop, seven years as an Assistant Project Manager, supporting fuel and marine projects as an Assistant Superintendent, and serving as a Project Manager.

For the past 20+ years, Brenda has led estimating efforts for Nova, first as Chief Estimator and now as VP of Pre-Construction. In her current role, she helps lead teams focused on opportunity tracking, estimating, proposal development, and winning work.

Brenda is also a second-generation Nova employee. Her mother was one of the first female field employees at Nova, working at Mare Island in the late 1970s.

As we celebrate 50 years, we recognize how fortunate we are to have someone like Brenda who knows our company history firsthand and can help us share it!

Nova's headquarters have been at the same location since the beginning, but things have certainly changed and grown over the years.

This image is an aerial view of the Nova Yard in Napa, CA, from the early 1980s. Around 1983, the office and shop buildings stood at the center of daily operations, with the site still taking shape around them. By 1984, the space expanded to include a new picnic area, marked by freshly planted trees, early signs of a campus built not just for work, but for our people.

Scott Victor dedicated 41 years to Nova. He began his tenure in 1984 as a draftsman and went on to work in the field across steam, fuel, and marine projects in multiple states, serving in roles including Quality Control, Project Superintendent, and Project Manager before becoming President for the last 10 years of his career at Nova.

Scott’s leadership guided some of Nova’s most complex work. He helped lead both domestic and international projects for U.S. government locations across Israel, Qatar, Japan, Australia, and U.S. territories, including Guam and Puerto Rico.

We simply cannot celebrate our 50th anniversary without also celebrating Scott.

From job sites to the Nova yard... Whether at informal office gatherings or a holiday party, the 80s were an era filled with company camaraderie and pride.

In the late 1980s, crews in Napa played a key role in launching Nova’s first barge. It was loaded locally before it made its journey to Ford Island, Hawaii.

Faces like Keith “Walter” Tabor and Lonnie “Pete” Vanley were longtime team members who supported work across the Napa yard and jobsites for decades. Moments like these reflect the pride behind the work and the people who made it happen.
