: Tropical Storm has formed in the Atlantic, 4th named storm of the 2026 Atlantic Hurricane Season. It's currently forecast to be short-lived. Here's the latest and what to know:
1) Dolly was able to develop from a small window of favorable conditions, but it looks like that will quickly be coming to an end Friday into the weekend as it encounters drier air and increasing wind shear. More shear and dry air the better…it hurts tropical systems! The official NHC (National Hurricane Center) forecast calls for this to move into the Caribbean and then dissapate / fall apart after.
2) Over the past several days, I’ve been discussing two track possibilities from the models. Scenario #1 quickly develops a stronger system and has it turning north out to sea. Scenario #2 is a system that either struggles after developing, or never actually develops, and heads more west as a result. Recently, almost all models have been leaning toward the western track, Scenario #2.
3) The more west it goes, land enters into the mix. First up will be the Caribbean. Leeward Islands and Puerto Rico by Sunday into Monday. Hispaniola by Monday into Tuesday. Then after the Bahamas? Cuba? The United States? All possibilities, but what will it be at that point? Even if it develops and then falls apart, some models indicate the leftovers could try to reorganize over warmer water, greater tropical moisture and lower shear. Not a guarantee, but possible down the road. Best-case scenario is an undeveloped rainmaker.
4)Thankfully, this is nothing to stress over this early, just putting it on your radar and keeping tabs on it.
I'll continue to keep you updated 24/7 with no hype, just the facts. Thanks everyone!
