Running out to the Hollis Strawberry Festival this month? While you're enjoying those local treats, take a look at your kitchen floor. It’s the heart of the home, but in our neck of the woods, it takes a beating from heavy boots and spilled cider. If you’re planning a renovation, three things matter for your kitchen hardwoods: choosing a closed-grain wood like Maple to resist spills, opting for a commercial-grade matte finish to hide those inevitable scratches, and ensuring a seamless transition to your dining area. We’ve spent 40 years helping neighbors from Silver Lake to Monument Square choose the right durability levels for high-traffic zones. You don't need a total demo to change the vibe—sometimes a fresh stain in a warm tone is all it takes to make the space feel brand new. Ready to upgrade your cooking space? Send us a message today for a free project estimate across Southern New Hampshire.

Professional sanding is more than just making wood look new—it’s about structural integrity. A quality contractor won't just buzz through the top layer; we level out uneven boards and identify deep-seated rot before the first coat of stain ever touches the floor. Forty years in Nashua has taught us that the best results come from patience, heavy-duty dust containment, and a keen eye for detail. Ready to see what four decades of expertise looks like in your living room? Reach out today to get an estimate for your summer renovation.

Most people think hardwood is just a color choice, but the way a tree is cut determines the soul of your room. If you look closely at a plank, you’ll see either 'cathedral' peaks or straight, tight lines. This isn't random—it’s the difference between plain sawn and rift-and-quartered lumber.

Plain sawn wood is the most common and features those beautiful, flowing arches. It’s vibrant and traditional. However, for homeowners in places like Hollis or Amherst who have large floor-to-ceiling windows or radiant heat, we often recommend rift-and-quartered boards. Why? Because the vertical grain structure makes the wood significantly more stable. It expands and contracts vertically rather than horizontally, meaning you'll see far fewer gaps when the New England seasons shift.

At Diorio Flooring, we don't just nail boards down. We look at the 'ray flecks'—those shimmering silver streaks found in high-end oak—and ensure the layout feels balanced across your floor. We recently finished a project in Dunstable where the client wanted a formal look, so we sourced specific rift-sawn white oak to eliminate the busy 'flame' patterns and create a sleek, architectural feel.

Whether you want the rustic charm of varied grains or the sophisticated uniformity of straight lines, 40 years of experience helps us spot the right grade of lumber before it ever touches your subfloor.

Curious which cut fits your home's architecture? Drop a comment or send us a message to discuss your next installation project.

Your hardwood floors hold the history of your home, even if they’ve been hidden for decades. It is common for homeowners in our area to discover high-quality white oak or maple buried under layers of old carpet, leaving them to wonder if the wood is salvageable or needs a total replacement.

This is where 40 years of local experience makes the difference. We don't just sand; we carefully evaluate the health of the grain and identify the wood species to ensure the restoration honors your home’s original architecture. By using precise sanding techniques to preserve the wood’s thickness and applying the perfect finish, we can turn a "lost" floor into a stunning focal point that makes your entire home feel brighter.

Restoration is about more than just aesthetics—it is an investment in the value and character of your property. If you think your floors are beyond repair, let a professional eye take a look before you give up on them.

Whether you are in Nashua, Amherst, Hollis, or surrounding areas, Diorio Flooring is here to bring your hardwood back to life. Contact us today to book your free in-home estimate.

While Oak is known for its durability, Walnut is the king of elegance. Known for its rich, dark natural color and beautiful swirling grain, it’s a favorite for homeowners looking to make a statement.

Because Walnut is slightly softer than Oak, it requires a specialized sanding approach and a high-quality finish to protect its prestige. Whether you want to install new Walnut or need to restore an existing floor, we have the specialized equipment to handle this premium wood with care.

Thinking of a luxury upgrade? Let's talk about Walnut.

Is it time to refinish? Try the 'water droplet' test. Put a few drops of water on your floor's high-traffic areas. If the water beads up, your finish is still doing its job. If it soaks in and darkens the wood, it’s time to call us!

Sometimes the best work we do is the stuff you can't see. We often encounter homes in Merrimack and Nashua where a wall was moved or a hearth was resized, leaving a gaping 'hole' in the hardwood floor.

This is where 'lacing-in' or 'weaving' comes into play. Instead of just putting a board across the gap, we remove the surrounding boards in a staggered pattern and weave in new wood. This ensures that the grain and the joints look lunch-break natural. By the time we are done sanding and staining, you literally cannot tell where the old floor ends and the new floor begins.

We also handle common issues like:
- Splintered or cracked boards.
- Deep pet stains that require board replacement.
- Filling old radiator pipe holes.

It takes an experienced eye to match the species and the grade of wood used in older homes—especially in the historic houses we have around here. We’ve spent 40 years sourcing the right materials and perfecting these invisible repairs.

If you have a 'problem area' that’s been bothering you, give us a call or text at (603) 930-1465. We love the challenge of making a damaged floor look whole again. From minor fixes to major patches, we’ve got you covered.

Had a leaky radiator or a fridge mishap? Don't panic. Water-damaged hardwood often 'cups' (the edges of the boards rise) as the wood absorbs moisture.

The first step is patience! The wood must be completely dry before we can sand it, otherwise the cupping may return. We use moisture meters to ensure the wood is stable. Once dry, we can often sand the floor flat again, making it look as though the leak never happened.
