This Memorial Day, we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who gave everything for our freedom.

I’m newer to the dirt work/skid steer side of business and just trying to learn as much as I can from the people who have been doing it longer.

For the local guys already in the grading, land clearing, hauling, driveway, and dirt work world, what are some tips, lessons, or mistakes you wish you knew when you first started?

Not looking to take work from anybody or undercut anyone. I’m just trying to build something the right way, price fairly, do good work, and learn from people who understand the trade.

Any advice on bidding jobs, dealing with customers, equipment, scheduling, or just running the business side would be appreciated.

As both a customer and a business owner, I always pay attention to one simple thing: how people make me feel.

What brings me back to a business isn’t always the lowest price, it’s the experience.

Good communication. Honesty. Respect. Showing up when you say you will. Taking pride in your work. Making the customer feel valued.

Every interaction teaches us something, whether it’s great service we want to model or poor service we never want to repeat.
