Woodland mixed border looking beautiful on a misty July morning. Big hickories and oaks overhead provide nearly full shade -- too shady for a lawn, so that's a lovely velvety moss lawn we've developed on the right side of the pic. Shrubs in view are Aucubas, Illiciums parviflorums, Mahonias, prostrate Cephalotaxus, Itea 'Little Henry' and an unknown holly cultivar. Perennials are hellebores, tradescantias, epimediums, Lady Ferns, Vinca minor. Out of view are the big Bottlebrush Buckeyes in bloom. Mulch in pinestraw.

Lenten Rose (Helleborus x hybridus) in all its glory. When happy these clumps get bigger and have more flowers every year. This one gets about 4 hours of morning sun, then shade from about noon onward. One of the few truly deer-proof plants.

The glorious and ever reliable 'Carlton' enjoying this amazingly warm mid-February day. If you're looking for a bright yellow daffodil that loves Tennessee and will increase every year, this is a great one.
