Two roof systems. One bad transition.

This is one of those details that might not look like a big deal until the water starts finding its way in. When a steep-slope shingle roof meets a low-slope roof, that transition has to be flashed correctly so water flows over the roofing system, not into it.

This HVAC curb is blocking the natural drainage path and causing unnecessary ponding water.

I’m not sure which design came first, the tapered insulation plan or the mechanical layout. But it’s pretty clear they didn’t account for each other.

The most frustrating part? The roofing contractor saw this during installation and kept going.

Good roofing isn’t just installing what’s on the plans. Sometimes you have to stop, ask the question, and solve the problem before it gets permanently built into the roof.

Water will always find the low point. Our job is to make sure it has somewhere to go.

When we say your roof is at the end of its life… sometimes we mean it literally. 💀

Believe it or not, finding animal remains on commercial flat roofs isn’t that unusual. Birds of prey will often bring their dinner up to a rooftop where they can eat undisturbed.

Just another reason regular roof inspections matter. You never really know what’s happening up there until someone gets on the roof and takes a look.
