Are you attending American Society of Landscape Architects’s conference this week? Welcome to Nashville! We want to meet up. On Friday, our team will be sharing about the work we did with Cheekwood Estate & Gardens for the Bracken Foundation Children’s Garden during our session, Cultural Landscape Report Informs Extensive Design Interventions. We’ll also be taking a team to explore different approaches to adaptation, restoration, and future planning in three of Nashville's historic parks—Centennial Park, Warner Park, and Fort Negley—to understand how design can build a bridge between past and present. These guided tours are SOLD OUT, but we still hope to see you at the conference!

It was an honor to work on the landscape architecture plan for the Tennessee State Museum in 2018 with HGA Architects and Engineers and EOA Architects. This project incorporated Tennessee’s native environment every step of the way by working with the already existing Bicentennial Park and using local stone and plants.

Phase 2 of the previously completed Werthan Master Plan focused on the adaptive reuse of a warehouse building now known as 602 Taylor. The design incorporated numerous elements linked to the historic uses of the property including the bollards which use the steel rollers from the bag printing process throughout the site and included the creation of an event space and food garden as well as a dynamic set of steps adjacent to the building with murals echoing the industrial past of the site.

We spent today checking in on the construction progress for the new The Morton Arboretum Grand Garden in Lisle, IL. We reviewed layouts, mock-ups, accent elements, and water feature formwork with Featherstone, Inc. Project + Construction Management while on site. We are excited to see this space go vertical and this magnificent garden come to life soon!

We attended the topping out ceremony at the Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) School of Concrete and Construction Management with orcutt | winslow last week. This iconic concrete building showcases masonry, steel and wood to capture all the building materials possible for students to see as they study to become future leaders in the construction fields. The building is projected to be completed in time for Fall 2022 classes!

Belmont University unveiled the Fisher Center for the Performing Arts this week with a ribbon cutting ceremony. The new venue will seat 1,700 people and host a variety of events including concerts, plays and other performances as well as serving as a learning space for students. It was a privilege to work with ESa Architects, Catalyst Design Group, PC, and R.C. Mathews Contractor on this project.

While plans for Sylvan Supply, a new mixed-used development on Charlotte Avenue, were well underway before COVID-19, the complex, with its breezeways, large courtyard and outside seating, is appropriately imagined

We are excited to welcome a talented new Project Designer to the HDLA team! Taylor Harrell first joined HDLA back in the summer of 2019 as an intern, and now, she returns after graduating from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville with her Bachelors in Architecture and Masters in Landscape Architecture. She is most passionate about the collaborative forces between landscape and architectural design and how they can be used to reshape the urban fabric into a more community-oriented and sustainable environment. Taylor’s skills also include 3D modeling, visual coding, and video editing. We're thankful to have her as part of the team!
