Have you ever tried cutting down a plant in your yard only to have it come back even strong? I know I have.

My name’s Wes, and I battled invasive plants in my yard for years before learning what actually works. I started volunteering with local parks and conservation groups and learned responsible methods for managing invasive plants that actually stop them from coming back.

I think the most common question I get asked is “what herbicide do you use?” And while it depending on application, one product that I use and recommend often is 41% glyphosate.

41% glyphosate can be used across several of the common application methods I demonstrate on this channel AND it can easily be found in small quantities that make a lot more sense for regular homeowners than a 2.5 gallon jug.

For cut stump or hack and sq**rt application: use undiluted or mix 1:1 with water.

For foliar spray application: dilute with water to an appropriate concentration for your targeted pest often (2.5-5%). Always follow the product label - it’s the law!

Note: I promote the responsible and targeted use of herbicide for the control of invasive plants in order to protect native plant species and promote biodiversity. The methods I share on my page all have this goal in mind and I do not promote broad, indiscriminate use of herbicide for the sake of “killing weeds.”

One month ago we removed about 1000 square feet of Asian bamboo and a massive hedgerow of invasive Chinese privet for a homeowner.

We came back to do a one month check in and were happy to see that thus far there has not been any regrowth.

During initial removal we used a cut stump herbicide application with 41% glyphosate.

Today I took out a big privet removal using the cut stump method!

This method is effective against privet as well as many other common woody invasive plants like Amur honeysuckle, buckthorn, and autumn olive.

Don’t move firewood!

Invasive pests like the Emerald Ash borer lay their eggs in trees. Those trees get cut down and turned into firewood. When you move that firewood, those pests go with it!

In order to avoid spreading inasibe pests and diseases, you should always buy firewood at your destination when camping or traveling and only buy certified heat treated wood!
