MALAMALA TODAY: 27th Oct - 2 Nov 2019 (Weekly round-up)

Over the past week we have recorded a total of 16 lion sightings comprising of the Kambula Pride, Gowrie coalition, Styx Pride & Eyrefield Pride; 26 leopard sightings comprising of 16 individuals.

Lions: The Kambula pride, have been busy with kills of two Impala, a Duiker and Warthog over the course of the past week. Two of the Gowrie males have been mating with a Kambula Pride lioness. The Styx Pride have been seen more often south of Charleston North Crossing. The Eyrefield Pride have been in the Sand River around Island Crossing.
Leopards: The Accipter male had an Impala kill. The Kapen Female had a Duiker kill. The Teardrop female and 2 cubs were at Charleston Koppies. The Maxims male had an Impala kill at West Street. The Island female had an Impala kill near Rattray’s Camp. The Spilt Rock male was mating with Xivati female. A nervous male was seen in Marthly. The Nkoveni female had an Impala kill at Maxims Lookout. The Piccadilly female and an unidentified male leopard were near MalaMala Camp. The young male cub of the Emsagweni female was on an Impala kill.
There were 3 packs of Cape Hunting Dogs. The Toulon pack of 14 individuals. A pack of 7 individuals. A small pack comprising of only a male and female with a missing ear. A single cheetah was viewed on Mhabatini Road. A herd of 10 Sable at West Street Bridge and a small herd of 4 near Rattray’s Camp.

Here are a few pictures of a completed project that was started last fall. A nice size waterfall flowing into a Anthony & Sylvan gunite pool. Pool has travertine coping and decking with a raised spa. The project started with a large cut in the natural grade that required a substantial size retaining wall.
