Living in a zinnia paradise 😌

I’m so glad I decided to try some new varieties this year! Linen and anything Queen Lime have been my favorites, and I’ll probably pass on the Zinderellas in the future.

We’re having typical late-summer weather - lots of heat and little rain - so I’ve been out in the evenings watering and pulling weeds and crabgrass… oh the crabgrass 🙃. In a weird way, I like weeding. 15 minutes turns into 2 hours and before I know it, it’s dark and my husband is shining a flashlight out the back door looking for me. It’s nice to look up and see the pile I’ve created, and the nice pathway or garden bed I’ve revealed. A good reminder that the work is always worth doing!

Enjoyed the sunset with the dogs tonight! So thankful for this view and our little piece of dirt 💚

This area of the garden is one of my favorite views in the evening. I can’t get enough of the sun setting behind the sunflowers. Sometimes I get to see the finches flying around too.
We finally got a bit of rain yesterday and the birds and flowers seemed to enjoy it. I’m happy for the bit of a cool-down it brought!

Happy to be enjoying the sunflowers at sunset once again. 🌻

Last year I left the sunflower stalks over the winter for the birds. They surprised me with nearly a hundred volunteer seedlings this spring that I’ve been calling my “misfit” sunflowers. I couldn’t bring myself to till them up so I planted them in a couple rows and dispersed in random areas I anticipated having blank spots.

A few have started blooming and I’m excited to see all the variety and colors!

Happy World Bee Day! 🐝

Bees come in all shapes and sizes and they all have different roles in the ecosystem. On warm summer days I love to take a moment and listen to them buzz around the garden, stopping at all the flowers along the way. I rarely have pollination problems, and I know I have the bees to thank, at least partly, for that.

Thankful for bees and extra thankful to no longer be afraid of them!
