As part of the Holy Ghost, Renewed by the Spirit campaign celebrating the church’s anniversary, Conrad Schmitt Studios was honored to restore the artistry in this beloved sacred space. Over time, the sanctuary’s historic liturgical artwork had begun to show signs of deterioration. Our team completed extensive paint restoration and gilding throughout the sanctuary as well as select conservation efforts to revive its original brilliance.

Winding through the woods along St. Mary’s Lake at the Congregation of Holy Cross is a newly created sacred space; Holy Cross Rosary Walk. Our team designed the new bas relief that helps shape a meaningful place where nature, art, and prayer meet. The rosary-shaped path begins with a crucifix, with the first Glorious Mystery visible in the distance, and concludes with a beautiful view of Mary on the top of the University of Notre Dame dome, bringing the journey full circle in reflection.

For four generations, our partnership with one of the world’s most distinguished mosaic studios has brought extraordinary works of sacred art to life. A new chapter of this enduring artistry has been unveiled at Cedar Grove Cemetery on the University of Notre Dame campus. The exterior roundel features the three Archangels: Saint Michael at the center, flanked by Saint Gabriel and Saint Raphael, while two 8-foot by 10-foot interior mosaics depict Our Lady of Lourdes on the north side and Our Lady of Guadalupe on the south. Each piece was thoughtfully designed to inspire reflection, beauty, and faith for all who enter. Scroll through to experience the remarkable detail and craftsmanship behind these timeless mosaics.

During the restoration of the St. Joseph County Courthouse rotunda, our team uncovered an elaborate historic decorative scheme concealed beneath generations of overpaint, including intricate scrollwork, faux bois finishes, and richly detailed ornamental panels. Through traditional decorative painting techniques and meticulous plaster restoration, these long-lost details were brought back to life based on historic evidence. The project also included the conservation of six historic murals, restoring their original color, depth, and clarity after decades of accumulated varnish and deterioration. Swipe to see how craftsmanship, conservation, and historic research transformed this remarkable space.

Built in 1896 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the historic rotunda of the St. Joseph County Courthouse has been restored to honor its original grandeur. We were honored to partner with the St. Joseph County Board of Commissioners to revitalize this remarkable civic space with a focus on historical accuracy. Our team restored the historic paint schemes and ornamental stenciling throughout the rotunda, completed extensive plaster repairs, and carefully conserved the original murals, breathing new life into a treasured architectural landmark. A historic space renewed for worship. Originally established in 1947, the Littleton Monastery of the Discalced Nuns of the Order of the Blessed Virgin of Mount Carmel was created within the former home of renowned Denver architect Jacques Benedict. We were honored to collaborate with Integration Design Group to help reimagine this sacred space through new liturgical decoration and custom stained-glass windows designed and crafted by our artists. The sanctuary window depicts Christ’s Crucifixion, while the nave windows feature Our Lady with Carmelites, St. Thérèse of Lisieux, St. Simon Stock, Pentecost, the Blessed Trinity with St. Teresa and John, and St. Elias. A closer look at All Souls Catholic Church in Englewood, Colorado. There are 9 new stained glass windows within the nave, with each window depicting a different biblical narrative that honors the souls in Purgatory who reached salvation through Christ. Those narratives include the Paralytic in the Temple, Assumption of Mary, Raising of Lazarus, Mary Magdeline Repents, when a woman by the name of Rahab Saves Joshua, The Bronze Serpent, David’s Repentance, the Presentation in the Temple, and Christ stepping on the Serpent. Uniting the collection are symbolic floral borders featuring magnolias for enduring faith and beauty, lilies for purity, and dogwood flowers representing the crucifixion, details that bring deeper meaning and connection to the sacred space.
