The team at Clem’s Roofing would like to extend our thoughts and prayers to everyone affected by the flooding this past week. We know many families and property owners throughout our community are dealing with damage, cleanup, uncertainty, and a lot of unexpected stress.

🚨 Why Proper Roof Decking Matters 🚨

This photo is a perfect example of why it’s so important to inspect the roof decking before installing new shingles. As you can see, these spaced roof boards have gaps well over 1/4”.

When gaps are too large:
❌ Nails can miss solid wood and not properly secure the shingles
❌ Shingles can become more vulnerable to blow-offs during high winds
❌ The roof system may not meet manufacturer installation requirements
❌ It can void or reduce manufacturer warranties
❌ The roof surface becomes less stable and uniform over time

By installing new sheeting (OSB or plywood) over boards like this, it creates:
✅ A solid nailing surface
✅ Better wind resistance
✅ A smoother finished roof appearance
✅ Improved overall roof integrity
✅ A roof system that meets modern building standards and manufacturer specifications

A roof is only as good as what’s underneath it. Cutting corners on decking can lead to major problems later on. Always make sure your contractor is inspecting the wood decking — not just the shingles.

Ice & Water Barrier is one of the most important components of a properly installed roofing system. This self-sealing membrane is installed in critical areas like valleys, around chimneys, skylights, and along eaves to provide an extra layer of protection against:
