Richard and his son, Roger Croell, built Croell, Inc. from the ground up, using concrete of course. They constructed the first plant in their hometown of Lawler, Iowa during the spring of 1968. soon expanded into three locations, adding plant in Prairie Du Chein, Wisconsin and Sumner, Io

wa in the early 70’s. It was during this time that we made Croell, Inc. a leader; focusing on the excellence of our concrete and our customer service. Today our company is in ten different states with more than 130 locations. The expertise that was acquired in the beginning stages of Croell, Inc. has never been forgotten. Safety Saturday 🛡️ Know Your SDS, Protect Your Crew

Safety Data Sheets aren’t paperwork — they’re protection. Every product we use on the job has hazards, and the SDS tells us exactly what they are and how to handle them safely. When we take the time to read, understand, and follow the SDS, we reduce risk for ourselves and everyone around us.

Key reminders for today:
✔️ Locate the SDS before you start — know the hazards before you open, mix, or apply any material.
✔️ Review PPE requirements — gloves, eye protection, respirators, or clothing needed for safe handling.
✔️ Check first‑aid and emergency procedures — know what to do before something goes wrong.
✔️ Understand storage and handling guidelines — temperature, ventilation, incompatibilities, and safe transfer methods.
✔️ Follow spill and cleanup instructions — SDS tells you exactly how to respond without making the situation worse.
✔️ Make sure SDS access is easy and up‑to‑date — no guessing, no outdated sheets, no missing information.

A safe jobsite starts with knowing the materials we work with. When we use SDS the right way, we protect our teams, our equipment, and our future.

Safety Saturday 🚧 Confined Space Entry: No Shortcuts, No Exceptions

Confined spaces are one of the most unforgiving environments we work around. A space might look harmless from the outside, but the hazards inside can change fast — and they’re often invisible. That’s why every confined‑space entry must be deliberate, documented, and backed by a full safety plan.

Before anyone steps inside, slow down and walk through the full process:
✔️ Identify every hazard — oxygen levels, toxic gases, engulfment risks, moving parts, electrical or mechanical energy, and anything that could shift or collapse.
✔️ Complete atmospheric testing — verify oxygen content, flammability, and toxicity. Testing isn’t optional; it’s the first line of defense.
✔️ Isolate the space — lockout/tagout, block lines, secure equipment, and eliminate any source of unexpected movement or flow.
✔️ Ventilate properly — ensure fresh air is moving through the space and that ventilation is continuous, not just a one‑time check.
✔️ Review and approve the permit — no permit, no entry. Permits confirm that every step has been completed and that conditions are safe right now.
✔️ Assign an attendant — someone trained, alert, and focused on monitoring conditions and the entrant at all times.
✔️ Have a rescue plan ready — not theoretical, not “we’ll figure it out.” A real, practiced plan with the right equipment on hand.

Confined spaces don’t give warnings — they demand preparation. When we take the time to verify, test, isolate, and communicate, we protect our crews, our families, and our future.
