I paid $16,400 for this deck build, and now I'm second-guessing one detail that's hard to ignore.
The center support post doesn't appear to line up perfectly under the beam, and there are blocking pieces, brackets, and other framing details around it that make me wonder whether this was part of the original design or a fix added later. The contractor insists it's built correctly and that the load is being transferred exactly as intended.
Maybe he's right, but when it comes to something that's supposed to support an entire deck, it's hard not to be cautious.
For those with deck-building or structural experience, does this look like a normal framing detail, or would you want an independent inspection before the project moves forward?
