It has a catchy name — Build America, Buy America — and the lauded goal of bringing manufacturing jobs back to the United States. But the law has spurred a bottleneck for affordable housing.

Nearly everything from HVACs and lighting to sink hooks in affordable housing projects that get federal dollars must carry the Made in the USA label. But, developers say, numerous products do not, as they have long been imported from overseas markets with cheaper labor costs.

So, I got one of these dust collectors from a friend at a good price. It was virtually new. I used it a few times and it sucked. It kept getting clogged when using it for the planer and jointer. Today it did it again so I took the hose off it to clean it out and discovered it came from the factory with the metal cross across the opening and because of that, all the larger strips of wood would get caught on it and it would clog up. Seems pretty obvious. You wonder who designed these things. So, I got out my Sawzall and cut the damn thing out of there and Shazam. It works just the way it's supposed to.
