Welcome to Falling Man Designs! I'm Michael Sawyer, owner, designer, and builder. Since high school, I've been falling, driving, and throwing myself around as a professional stunt person. Just about everyone in the business has other skills, like singing or playing in a band. As a musician, I'm great at repairing, designing, and building things. Faith and Family are the most important things in my life! Growing up, my father usually built everything by hand for the house while owning an auto body shop and working for the Boston & Maine Railroad. That is probably why I like a good epoxy table, or mixing mechanical items into pieces. I could usually be found with him at work, or tinkering in the garage repairing something with him and my mom; a tradition that lives on today with my family. While everything in the store has been made by me, as a homeschooling family, there is always time to impart those abilities to the family. It's great seeing my wife make a cutting board as a gift for someone or my kids showing adults how to use tools during a set construction for a show. My true carpentry journey started with helping friends, then working on sets for theater, Church, film, and traveling shows. When one of my full-time stunt shows ended giving me more time, I started making gifts instead of buying them. That turned into making gifts for those people to give others, and it slowly grew. That year, my daughter and I made all of our Christmas gifts on lathe that had been purchased from a yard sale. I've been blessed with the friends and family that God has put in my life that opened doors and helped me hone my skills. Over the years I've had the chance to build more custom pieces, including for the Disney Cruise Line, as well as having the opportunity to be a part of the very talented Visual Merchandise Team building themed stores at Universal Studios. A year ago we moved the family from FL to PA when given the opportunity to work on a movie. That brings us to today, where woodworking has become my full-time career. What can I make for you?

Sometimes you just have to make the part yourself!

On a custom walnut table, would you prefer these walnut attachments plates instead of metal for legs?

At over 34" in diameter and 2 1/4" thick, it's a substantial, eye-catching piece designed as a coffee or statement side table.

Beautifully figured with burled redwood. The wood has a deep, reddish-brown hue with dramatic variations in texture, including tight curls, waves, and organic contours that give it a luxurious, almost three-dimensional look under the finish. I moved the table outside, but I still struggled to get a picture that shows the wood's depth.

With so many pockets in the wood on both sides, I decided to lean into the inevitable bubbles and create a more water-like look. I added a hint of blue and green to the deep-pour epoxy to give it an even, clear appearance, and I am so happy I did.

To match the waves and curls of the wood and bubbles, I contoured the top to resemble water, and the final product looks like a rugged coastline. To ensure the durability of the soft redwood, I spent a couple of days soaking it in TotalBoat penetrating epoxy. Blacktail Studio, you weren't kidding about working with redwood, so that was a great pick up from one of your videos! Just the top is 50 pounds!

The table is complemented with a 16" high curved metal base from . It is powder-coated in black and recessed into the top; it also features adjustable feet to accommodate imperfect floors.

It's all finished, top and bottom, with multiple coats of Rubio Monocoat hard-wax oil. Then I added extra coats of the N3nano hard and top coats to protect the wood.
